Terrible old fashioned set up did a assessment on a 1980s computer for about a half hour to an hour. Spoke with a said"aoda" counselor for less then 15 got a an assessment which wasn't shared with me. Basically out of date need more training and actual person to person contact.

Charged $50.00 for not cancelling within 24 hours due to being very sick. Financially draining which caused me more anxiety on top of everything else mounting up. My counselor was nice, but I felt pushed into a night group by him which I did not like. I'm a person who processes my feelings to feel better and this class was the complete opposite, plus it was an additional fee for these classes. I ended up broke and unsatisfied.

My complaints are primarily with their cancellation policy. They are really unforgiving about charging patients who cancel with less than 24 hours notice, to an extent that refuses to take into account basic human derailments. I tried to cancel when I was feeling under the weather one day, which is like, not always the kind of thing you can predict with 24 hours certainty, but they had virtually NO exception even for health concerns like this. They tried to charge me a fee that would have cost me more than the appointment itself, and the policy really makes it feel like $$ is more important than things like making sure you're not spreading germs to the staff. So, I ended up dragging my sick person out of bed to go to an appointment because I couldn't afford to pay a fee. I escalated the complaint and was told that the office staff could consider like, reimbursing the fee after the fact if I had to cancel for illness in the future, but that it was a one-time thing that could not be repeated. So like, guess you can only get sick once, cool. My therapist was fine, and I liked them as a person, but they were not quite a good fit. I was seeking treatment for long-term trauma wreaking havoc on my personal relationships and mental health, but the therapy I got was very focused on short-term situations and solutions. I got very little help with processing what had happened in the past and learned no new coping skills - my therapist mostly spent a lot of time trying to help me come up with words to address my own conflicts.

Their therapists are good, but their office is not run well and the front office staff is rude. They hold people to the “24 hour minimum reschedule” policy down to the minute, to the point where a patient’s mental health really doesn’t seem to be their top priority, because you aren’t allowed to see or talk to your therapist until you pay. (Good idea, right? Hike up someone’s anxiety by tacking on a bunch of extra fees and then refuse to let them talk to a mental health professional?) And I’m not talking about copays or insurance related charges, I’m talking about the fees that they manually tack on and then take you off of your therapist’s schedule, with no exceptions. I had to drive my grandmother (who has cancer) to the doctor because my mother, who ALSO has cancer wasn’t able to take her. Doesn’t matter, got charged $50 because I only called 23 hours before. Best part is, they don’t send their reminder texts 24 hours before your next appointment, so even when you call SECONDS after receiving it, you’re still going to be charged. This place gave me more anxiety than I had going in. Give your money to a healthcare facility that cares about its patients.

It took me 2 years to finally build up the courage to call and make an appointment for counseling. I finally settled on Oakwood, basically because they accepted my insurance and I liked what I saw on their website. I asked to see someone who could deal with marriage issues and parenting issues. The counselor they assigned me with did not specialize with kids and family issues. Also, after our first meeting, he basically told me he hoped my husband would come because that would help....left me feeling sort of hopeless. The woman who "greeted " you at the desk was extremely unpleasant. She acted as if I were a bother and like she would rather be anywhere but there. For my second appointment, my babysitter feel through and I called to reschedule. They told me since it was not a 48 hour notice I may still be charged....even though I was trying to reschedule and not cancel. So I drove my kids to Racine to my sister's and back to Kenosha so I could make the appointment. Well, I mixed up my appointment time and arrived late. I understand that this is my fault. I explained this mix up to the desk staff and apologized, told them this was only my second time there, that my family is under extreme financial pressure at this time and could I please not be charged for the mix up. Fast forward to today and here I sit writing out a check for my missed visit. Going here caused me more anxiety than anything else and now I am even more terrified to call another office and get the help I need. I do not recommend Oakwood Clinical Associates!!
