honestly this place was garbage. always finding hair and bugs in the food. staff dont listen. not to mention how many girls got impregnated by the staff while i was there. im honestly better now than i was when i got out of hgc. and i did that on my own.

hello this is crystal personally speaking I was locked up there as a kid and to be honest they were terrible they have turned off cameras and hit kids and caused them to bleed on top of that one staff popped this kids arm out of place and another suffocated a girl to death because he was too fat and he crushed her when he restrained her.

This place should be shut down for good. I have reported many staff for sexually harassing girls and boys. I was hurt many times in the restraints. My right arm was popped out of place 3 times and no one did a thing. Also we were fed "ham" sandwiches almost everyday. Those sandwiches would sometimes be days old. Also when we would go on outings the van would have no air conditioning so we would have heat attacks. One girl threw up everywhere in the van due to it. Another almost passed out. And during the summer the staff would take the boys to a pool but the girls only ever went to the movies or a park. There was hardly any rights. When our rights were violated we weren't allowed to call licensing or our caseworkers. If we even looked the wrong way we would be restrained. They restrain you by pulling your arms up from behind you and stretching them. It just didn't feel right. The only part of our body on the floor would be our feet and or bottom legs. Your entire bottom should have been on the floor but it wasn't. Big strong men would restrain small little girls and also girls that were 12. Those girls backs would pop in many ways and some others had their shoulders also popped out of place. Over all this place is terrible. They do nothing to protect you. It should either be shut down or taken over and changed.

I was there when it was Campbell A Griffin back in 2005. I was a bad teenager and had extremely bad anger problems. I was on Pioneer and I stayed there for over a year. I was always on MNV. (major norm violator). It wasn't all that bad there was some good staff we did have fun at times. It wasn't completely bad it really wasn't. Now the sister place to it Texas adolescent Treatment Center was terrible. I can say so much about that place. I'm glad they shut it down. In all honesty alot of the CPS placements should not be open there is a lot of abuse behind closed doors and noone listens to you when you try and tell. It's what you make of it, noone can change you but you. It took me along time to get that through my thick skull. I'm grateful for being in places like that because I didn't go on to lead a life of crime or doing drugs. As a mother that I am now I learned to control myself and not act out in the ways I did. You can over come any obstacle you just got to believe you can and not let anyone tell you that you can't.

Came here when I was 14 and stayed here for a year and 2 months. At the time I was a real handful from my anger issues and always wanting to fight. One thing I did not like was the restraints. The staff tried their hardest to make you yell and cry, I wouldn't give in so they restrained me till they popped a blood vessel that left a rash on the whole left side of my face to my arm. My dad made a complaint and still nothing was ever solved from that incident. Staff have favoritism, and there are staff that just dislike you; like their a child themselves locked up in there with you. All I have to say is volleyball was great for me in there, so was drawing, exercising and reading late at night with whatever music they were playing. Definitely do not recommend this place for kids. I was here in the year 2010.

Most of the previois reviewers i was at HGC with. Not a terrible placement like alot have said. They take you on outings and food runs based on behavioral statuses. Fridays all those who dont have restrictions are able to watch a movie and eat snacks, and sometimes they had special things like pizza or nachos. The person who coordinates all the activities is very good about it. While i was there they had just started a new system, where the second floor was becoming the higher status unit (high silvers, gold and platinum status residents) where you could use your own bed things, wear your own shoes and jackets, have makeup, and a few other perks i know im forgetting (i was there nearly 3 years ago). The reason i gave a 4 star review is because they dont really teach you much there. There are mandated groups that arent relevant. There were fights constantly between the girls on my unit. There was actually even a girl that like crawled into the ceiling once. My shoulder was nearly dislocated my 3rd day there in a restraint that was completely uncalled for. I constantly got put on restriction for provoking even if i wasnt.

Didn't like it much they taught kids that they couldn't defend themselves or they would get extra time. And also they weren't teaching what they need to know, coping skills only go so far what they need to teach them is how to survive the world outside because let me tell when I got out what it came down to was they didn't teach me swat about survival in this world because either you survive or don't THAT is what it comes down to.

Man i have so much to say about Hector Garza Center... well i was one of their former residents i admit i was a handful i guess you can say i was a package deal. tbh when i first got admitted there i hated it so much i wanted to leave unfortunately that was not possible. i made friends with majority of the kids there so i guess you can say i was one of the popular kids i switched back and forth between bravo unit and alpha unit however i am a bravo baby no matter what . some of the staff there were amazing and some were the opposite of that im not gonna lie although it was a good place for me it was also like hell on eath i was done dirty by some of the staff but i was favorited by many others i learned alot and memorized the line norms to this day i still know them no matter what i will always love hector garza because although i raised hell i also learned to appreciate the help i did get that place made a major impact on my life both positive and negative however i do have thoughts and plans to work there some day when i am old enough

When I was there it sucked! I was there way too long! We had cheap shampoo and conditioner. Ms. Farias was my therapist. I hopped the fence to the pool in the rec yard with Celeste and Jasmine. My status was taken away. The food sucked! I ran on my furlough and tried to escape on my day pass. Me and my dad went to six flags that day to fiesta Texas. Prisma and ana’s fart stinks!!!!!!!!!! I was transferred from fort bend jdc. We used to go on outings. And I never had a good relationship with the staff!!!!!!!!!!

The staff treat you like shit. The food is horrible. Girls run on the outings when we go to the pool. And then try to blame it on those of us that needed to go to the bathroom. I was on inspire I didn’t know anybody there from my past and when I first arrived I was so scared my caseworker was filling the paperwork out you know I’m them rooms with the big table and big windows looking right outside to the parking lot and she was telling me she would be back to get me that Friday and she never came she lied and that’s what the staff was telling me over and over that she is not coming to get me man they was really trying to hold me till I turned 18

My son is currently in juvenile detention and may be sent to this treatment center, I’m scared for my son after reading these reviews, I will not get a say in where he is sent because he has violated his probation so many times, I only hope and pray these reviews are just by troubled former patients and that this place helps my son and our family to be together again.

i was sent here when i was 15 years old after i had been sex trafficked for many years when they first opened the girls court of the 315th district courts in harris county jdc this place did not help me at all first let me say the 9 months i was there was not successful i was emotionally abused we had to earn privileges to contact our parents we were emotionally abused sexually abuse it was so many thing that wasnt in the media about this place the runaways the deaths the rape and torture i used to watch my roommate stab her self to death and bleed out not once was 911 called to get her medical attention we had to strip naked to avoid being abuse who sits on a childs legs and has there hands pulled up behind there head for hours even after your calm or how staff members ran off with some of the girls how the would touch us and stare at us at night while we slept how they made us sound crazy to our parents when we cried out for help and all they wanted was consent to medicate us more and diagnose us with this that wasnt even wrong with us how many of us had bad side effects and all they would do was go up on our dosage so many of my sisters died here and i say my sisters because when you did find bondage with someone it was close because many of us endured the same thing with no one to listen we were all we had and when the staff realized that they would turn us against eachother which caused the fights there was no peace help or rehabilitation here

I was at this place in 2019 and left successfully I got abused and restrained for a dumb reasons mr bell on valor ain’t care about nobody but his self!!!

Hector Garza was AWFUL. Sure, I was a miserable teen because I was in CPS. I didn’t care what happened to me. But neither did those staff. I don’t know how many times I had both of my shoulders popped out of place and covered in bruises from restraints. They would pull you off of the floor butt off the ground with arms behind you and extended. And when I say covered I mean COVERED in bruises. I was not allowed to call my case worker, and when I was they gave me 3 minutes and started the timer when they dialed the number. If they didn’t answer, time was up. If they popped my arm out of place they would not try to reset it and they wouldn’t take me to the hospital. The only way for me to get help for my arm was to intentionally do something that severely injured myself. After I injured myself, I was bleeding everywhere, what did they do, restrained me for 30 minutes and then called a transport van to pick me up and take me to a psych hospital. From the psych hospital, I told them what happened and they immediately called 911. I was told to talk to the “therapist” at Hector Garza but he had sexually assaulted multiple girls including myself and I no longer felt safe with him. I asked to move therapists and I was denied. Rooms had to be made like military. Other girls would steal your uniforms. I was there during the riots when the boys caught the bunk beds on fire a floor below us. Since we were lock down unit, we were forced to stay on our unit as the smoke continued to rise. A lot of our girls went crazy as well, lots of runners. The only time that I was allowed to speak to the head boss over the program was after I had attempted to take my life after getting abused by the staff and having my shoulder popped out and he was shipping me to a hospital. I told him everything that happened and he completely disregarded me. After getting to the hospital I told them what happened and I refused to leave the hospital. I was kept there until my case worker picked me up. A friend died during my stay. She ended her life, not because of herself but because of how bad they were mistreating her. Also, 1-1 sucked. We got the “left-overs” always cold, never much. A lot of times burnt. So many bugs. The place is disgusting. This is NOT a treatment facility. This facility makes you need treatment after.
