Spent 9 days at this facility and AMA out. Horrible experience. Everything is a LIE on their website. They make it look so pretty and it’s not. Just when you walk in the door. Nurses gave me another patients medicine once and tried to give me a different patients medicine a different night. Happened to several patients there. Every one of us were lied to before we got there and lied to the entire time we were there. STAY AWAY!!! Spent 12 hours trying to get out. Don’t waste your time going it’s definitely a trap. NASTY place!!! Also they called another patients husband thinking it was my husband and discussed all of my personal business with him. He is in his late 60’s and had no clue. He was worried about his wife checking herself out because something was wrong. Figured it out 2 days later and they say oh it was a mistake. Ridiculous

I had the worst experience with this place! We were trying to have my father admitted, had insurance acceptance and the facility even told us to drive the 2 hours to Memphis and he would be admitted that day. Only to get there and they gave us around the world answers to delay time. They sent us to Lakeside for a "detox assessment" so he could be medically cleared to enter the facility, (which they waited until 5 that afternoon to tell us this), due to his recent stroke, because they have had people DIE at their facility. I was told if I could get medical clearance from his regular doctor, they could admit him right away. I had that within 15 minutes and when I called back, they informed me he would still have to stay at Lakeside for five days. They went back and forth on what they wanted, never gave straight answers. We contacted another facility in Oxford, Mississippi and had him admitted within 12 hours! No problems what so ever. I am baffled that this facility can deny someone who is trying to get help. Anyone looking into this facility, DON'T. Drive the extra hour to Oxford Treatment Center - Etta! They are AMAZING!!!

I was only The Oaks at La Paloma for two weeks but my stay there was nice. It’s a 100 year old building so it’s not the nicest place ever but it’s been renovated several times. My only concern was that I was told over the phone that this was a primary mental health center, but that’s not true. It’s a dual diagnosis center, so if you’ve been told it’s mostly mental health, I suggest you be weary of coming here. Overall, it’s a good place. Good, genuinely caring staff and such a warm place to be at.

I went to the Oaks on 3-31-17 to begin my recovery. Here’s my story...I was ready to stop using. I found all of the help that I needed to start building a foundation and a new life. It was great to be around the employees on the men's unit that were in recovery themselves...they were a hope shot for me and I wanted what they had....Im clean today and I help take a meeting into a treatment center in my home town. I'm grateful that I was able to go there...I couldn't have done this alone

It’s really a shame that I have to leave a 2 star review. My therapist Adrienne deserves 5 stars, the RCs on the men’s unit deserve 5 stars and the new psychiatrist (there were 2 different ones during my stay but whatever) was great too. However, I can honestly say after my experience that the business office see’s you as nothing but a dollar sign, not a patient, ESPECIALLY Kell’e. First of all the business office started to harass me on my SIXTH day for money. I expressed my concern and let them know that I thought it was completely unprofessional.... But the main issue I have sadly, was on my very last day. Kell’e and another guy took me into an office on my very last day with 2 hours to go. They said said I owed them 1200 and basically demanded a payment. It was to the point where I asked Kell’e if I could please leave the office because I felt uncomfortable. They then tried to get me to sign something against my will and I refused and they continued to force me to defend myself. Kell’e finally left the office after I told her I would expose this incident on google and the gentleman in the office agreed she was being unprofessional. Then once I started talking about the unacceptable manner they handled an EIGHTEEN HOUR power outage (forced to sleep in 55 degree rooms with no hot shower, darkness, and no updates from business or CEO Sally), the guy finally let me go because he knew they were treating me wrong. Like I said, I truly feel like this place helped me, but the disgusting way Kell’e and the business office treated me as a dollar sign and not a patient really left a sour taste in my mouth. I reported Kell’e and the rest of the business office to the Clinical Director so hopefully nobody else has to feel the way I did on their last day at La Paloma.

This place is awful! If you are looking for substance abuse do not go here. They didn’t even offer an AA meeting. It’s more of a mental pill mill. You are not able to close your bedroom door OR your bathroom door. The beds are like sleeping on springs along with a pillow that was like sleeping on a bag of apples. The treatment/classes were not helpful and some employees that would teach the classes would embarrass you in front of everyone not to mention it’s the same classes week after week. The only lady who seemed to like and enjoy her job was the music lady. It’s dirty and looks nothing like the online pics. Never seen a rope climbing thing(?) and if you wanted to use the music studio you maybe able to your last week if you ever get “leveled up” which was impossible for most. When I asked to leave this place (I went on my own will) they refused to give me my belongings (my ID, phone, money and suitcase)for days (5 days!) but would tell me I could leave whenever I wanted. I wasn’t from that state and needed my ID to get on an airplane! It was totally wrong of them. This was not a treatment for substance abuse but if your going crazy and need to have eyes on you 24/7 then maybe it’s the place for you. I would never send anyone I loved here regardless of their condition.

I was not a patient but an immediate family member of a patient. We were very disappointed in several aspects of the treatment facility. When my family member entered the program she asked if children were allowed as she has a grandchild that she would like to visit. She was told that yes children were allowed during visitations. We included the patient's grandchild in the first visitation day without any problems and the second visitation day were told no children were allowed. In the patient handbook it says that children are allowed so when this was questioned by me to the director I was told that children are no longer allowed and that it hadn't yet been changed in the handbook. This is only one of the many inconsistencies with the program and the staff. Staff would continuously contradict one another on rules and decisions. I know this may seem like minor problems but when someone is working on recovery inconsistencies and contradictions can hurt the process especially when it comes to trusting that the staff has your best interest at heart. I person is more likely to focus on their recovery when small things likes these are not an issue. My family member was supposed to be on 30 minute checks but at night there were numerous occasions she would go an hour or more without a check so if your family member is suicidal or depressed that's something to take into consideration. The group classes were the same ones over and over again often with the same material being covered in more than one class so they became repetitive and redundant. One concern that I had was that attending church or a religious service was a privilege that had to be earned through points instead of given as a right. The only thing provided was a spirituality class on Sunday mornings that were more of a group discussion on spirituality. I feel that someone's religious beliefs should be used as a strength while in treatment and never held over their heads as something that can be earned so if you or your loved one are religious take this into consideration when selecting this facility. My family member also mentioned that you did not always get clean sheets and towels each week and if you requested them you were sometimes told there were none available at that time. I did feel confident in my family member's therapist and she seemed truly invested in her recovery and helping her come up with a recovery plan and discuss her stressors. My family member did state that the food was good and most of the staff appeared to care about the recovery and treatment of the patients but that it did sometimes feel that the facility wanted her there for the insurance money instead of to assist in her recovery.

Worst facility I’ve ever been to my therapist let everyone there including all the other patients my business and I was hazed by not only the patients but the staff. Never could I imagine somewhere to be soo low and uncaring when people are paying good money to save their live’s... DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE AT ALL COSTS.

WHAT A SCAM AND IMMORAL PLACE THAT PREYS ON THE MENTALLY ILL! Not only did they straight up LIE to me before I came by telling me I could FaceTime my kids every night, which was a huge reason I chose this facility over others (it's not allowed at the Oaks - at all), now they are charging me THOUSANDS of dollars MORE than agreed to and refusing to bill my insurance, instead sending me threatening phone calls and emails that they're going to report me to a collection agency. And that doesn't even address the poor level of care. During my last week of treatment the NP I normally saw, Ms. Deidtrich who is wonderful, was on vacation. Instead, the last week I was scheduled to see NP Ms. Long. In my opinion, Ms. Long has an agenda when it comes to psychotropic medications and is on a mission to blindly enforce it on everyone she sees, regardless of their unique case. The first time I saw Ms. Long, without her even really talking to me to get to know me, she told me I had been on medication "too long" (almost 5 years). I immediately began advocating for myself. After all, I was just finishing up a round of Electroconvulsive Therapy (which is only reserved for patients with the severest forms of depression), I had active suicidal ideation about 5 weeks earlier and La Paloma sent me to a psychiatric hospital because of it, and it's very clear to me and my psychiatrist back home I'm one of the unique cases that needs to be on medication longterm. When I advocated for myself, Ms. Long said, "Do you really want to be tied to a pill for 40 years?" I said, "Yes, if it makes me feel better." Then Ms. Long said, "I"m hopeful all my patients will achieve remission." I told her she had only known me 4 minutes and didn't know enough about me to make that assumption. Long story short I got the Patient Advocate and Clinical Director involved, and they assured me Ms. Long was not going to make any changes to my medication. I thought I was in the clear, until I discharged. After discharging, I saw that Ms. Long and reduced my prescription of Effexor - an antidepressant that is known to be difficult to wean from - from 225mg a day to 75 mg a day! That's a very aggressive titration from 3 pills a day to only 1 pill a day. Had I followed it, I could have ended up with serious side effects including active suicidal ideation again. Luckily I had enough pills to maintain my 3 pill a day dosage until I was able to very quickly get into my home psychiatry office to get an appropriate prescription. While I haven't had the time to yet, I do plan to report Ms. Long to the State of Tennessee's Mental Health Department.

i did put my sister at Oaks at La Paloma, assuming that the daily rate was based on the 27,600 monthly rate they advertise. No where did it tell me that if she leaves against clinical advice, the daily rate goes up. I called on a Monday, and they quoted me 1786. Then the following Wednesday, "Jennifer" in the business office says "oops, it just went up to 1926.00???? PER DAY??? I do think it is extremely UNETHICAL to take money from someone like me who is a teacher for a living, has used all of her savings to try and help her twin sister, and then, when she leaves because she is bipolar, they tell me AFTER the fact, that that 27,600 was a discounted rate? That doesn't sit well with me at all. To me, THAT's INSANITY right there. I am going to need every penny back into what is left of my savings to help my sister. The Oaks didn't take her insurance, but they certainly took my money. Quickly, and easily, I may add! What are family members supposed to do? I feel that this practice is dishonest and unfair to family members who are only trying desperately to get help for their mentally ill loved ones. The system should help SUPPORT us, and not be greedy by taking our hard-earned savings.

I sent my 19 yr old Son to the Oaks on June 11th 2017. I was scared to death but based on the recommendations from Intervention 911, I took the plunge. The day after he arrived I happened to read some of the reviews. I was petrified, I called the facility and was so scared and anxious thinking I made a bad decision. I must admit it wasn't easy getting in contact with someone and had a bit of a struggle getting in touch with proper contacts. After we made the proper contact connections the communication was excellent. The quality of the Staff was excellent. The Facility was very well kept and the food was absolutely amazing. As I previously stated I did have a tough time getting the initial communication started. That would be my only complaint or area of improvement. I must add that my son was not as cooperative as he should or could have been, but that did not stop Henry (Therapist) from taking him on as one of his own and he made excellent progress even though it was like pulling teeth. One additional comment, it is tough to replicate the quality of the care they received in The Oaks, we still cannot find a therapist or Psychiatrist that even comes close to the staff at the Oaks. I recommend The Oaks Hands Down!

Some of the worst human beings on the planet. They could careless about the patients there. They bill themselves as having mental health support, which consisted of one class once a week where a woman reads off a sheet she just printed off the internet. The most unprofessional doctors I have ever experienced. All they want it to milk your insurance for as much as legally/illegally possible. The director Hally is a vile human being. Absolutely vile. Avoid this place at all cost.

I just returned from the grand re-opening of The Oaks at La Paloma. I was so proud of the team there! The Blue Door recording studio is fabulous. The new sport court, fountain and the fire pit are very well done. I can't wait to spend more time on the nature trail. Bravo Oaks team!

My brother passed away Dec 18 2016 there. Very uncaring staff. Found him unresponsive at 630 am and instead of calling 911 they left his room until 706 and finally called for help. He laid in his bed passed away for awhile according to EMT records. So much for their 15 minute checks. They left out the part on their medical records that they went into his room at 630. Only found out by requesting other records. Justice will be served for my brother. The clinical director there was very cold and unhelpful. Any place that stands out a patients room while he lays there to figure out how they are going to cover their butt needs to be fired.

Do not be fooled by the pretty pictures-not only is this place a dump, the care is unorganized. While there for over a month I only met with my therapist 1 time! I was sexually harassed by an older male patient and nothing was done about it. They are so strict-it is almost to a fault. Recovery needs to be structured and rules are necessary, but the staffs treatment of the patients here boarders on verbal & mental abuse & that's the last thing any addict needs. They make antidepressants and mood stabilizers seem manditory and will load your family member up on as many of them as possible. I relapsed the day I left La Paloma-& left feeling more damaged than I did coming in. I spirited down worse than before leaving my pain killer pills and returning to the needle. Thankfully my story didn't end there. I met a person who suggested solid landings in Costa Mesa, , california-the recovery there mixed with intensive therapy, life skills classes, and thrilling field trips to learn to experience and enjoy what life has to offer drug/alcohol-free gave me all the coping skills I needed to stay clean. I am over a year and a half sober now and I owe it all to solid landings. Do not send your family member/friend to La Paloma-you will regret it.

Nightmare is the only fitting word other than hell on earth. The living facilities are old and dirty, you see each doctor once for maybe 10 minutes in your whole stay. The staff are extremely unprofessional and really don't care, they are only there because it's a job. While I was there someone was hurt very bad and they refused to take them to a doctor or hospital. You must wait in very long lines for meds and clients fight over who was there or cut the line and staff doesn't nothing. Also the nurse opens whenever she/he feels like it, not keeping posted times. They don't explain phone list that if you don't get on it you're s.o.l and they don't care about your personal faith because they pick what church they want and won't tell you what, where or type and offer no other faith support, not online or any other way. Detox is a nightmare I saw countless ppl rushed to the er because the medical staff doesn't know what the hell they are doing. The area this place is located is very dangerous and the pictures you see on the site is a completely separate building, not where you are staying. Complete bait and switch. I could go on and on with the issues, please save your money and time. There is real help from real ppl who care out there, but they don't work here.
