Unknown panic brought me to voluntarily sign into this facility, against what I wanted over Christmas. The bed was comfortable, some of the meals were delicious & I felt safe, along with met many helpful people. My faith in God, cooperation and the patients, nurses, techs, doctors, among many others, helped me through one of the most difficult times away for 5 days over the holidays. I know this whole experience will significantly improve mine & my family's future & thankful to Laurelwood.

This establishment is pretty horrible. When I went, voluntarily, for help with PTSD and panic disorder I was told there would be a therapist to work with. There is not. It is run like a jail. We were locked out of our rooms during the day and forced to sit in the common area. It was loud and there were violent individuals who were pounding on the glass. The first day i was there, i asked about 5 people for a pillow and a blanket for my bed. Each time, the staff member would say "Oh yeah, let me get that for you." I did not receive a pillow or blanket the entire first night I was there. I was told that I could not go to the dining hall because I hadn't met with a Dr. yet. That was not really an issue for me, however, I got there at 7 AM and did not have anyone offer any meal at all until I asked at about 7PM if I could please have something to eat. The staff does not explain anything to you about the procedures. I asked for towels and wash clothes the second day I was there, as no one offered any toiletries or shower essentials. These are very basic necessities that should be provided to every patient. You have to ask multiple people, multiple times to get any help. Many of the nurses ignore you. I saw my doctor two times in the six days I was there. If you weren't questioning your sanity when you got there, you sure were made to feel unstable shortly after. They do not communicate a basic time frame for when you might be "allowed" to leave...again, I brought myself here VOLUNTARILY. Avoid this place like the plague. They make you feel subhuman and completely like an inconvenience. I left feeling worse than when I checked in. Do not take your loved ones here.

It’s amazing to me seeing these medical professionals touting the effectiveness of 12 step programs while giving no statistical/scientific evidence that they work. They take vulnerable sick people and tell them that the only method to treating there disease is by working a 12 step program that statically has been proven to only work for 8-12 % of people but Dr. Parran won’t tell you that. He tells you it’s the only method to “recovery” and that if it doesn’t work it’s “your fault”. How terrible and sad for nearly 90% of people with this terrible disease looking for help and an effective treatment.

This is not a bad place like other reviews are saying. I stayed here in may of 2018 and this place pretty much saved my life. I met a lot of great people and learned a lot from the experience. The doctors were great and eventually worked things out with me. They also have lots of activities like gym and art and books, also tv and coffee and snacks throughout the day. It was almost like a nice getaway at a hotel. It’s what you make out of it.

Literally endless nightmare, trapped with people not my age who bothered me day and night. Given meds for a problem I did not have. Strictly segregated based on gender, but I was the only male who wasn't a threat to others for a few days. I felt I had lost all control over my own life, which is what was the cause of my mental problems in the first place! Thank you, unit 2600, for giving me trauma. I can't even go to my job without getting flashbacks.

i was here years ago. Terrible. Reeks of the usual unethical treatment that is characteristic of UHS hospitals. Was forbidden to call anyone, and i was called a liar about a panic attack and refused my ORDERED medication. Then it escalated into a full blown hyperventilating etc panic attack and they still did not medicate me.

I was place here for taking MIDOL a drug that I use for cramps! I felt unsafe at times from the other children being racist. Every day they asked me was I suicidal when I kept telling them I wasn’t & made me feel depressed. I could only talk to my mother & shower at certain times and my mother honestly didn’t want me to go but they made her feel as if it woof been child neglect if I didn’t attend there. Because I was there it caused me to become depressed And they instructed that I took medicine for it and look past my mother wishes! They told my mother if I did not take any medicine I would not leave So my mother instructed me just to do a said. On November 2 I was able to leave. I’m writing this review so people know this is not the place for their child.

I'm autistic, Asperger's syndrome. A member of the staff has a civil stalking case filed against me. I wrote 129 emails since 3/28/22 that I thought doctors would be analyzing. Not one reply stating "stop" or "you need counseling, you autistic". I did once come in and asked to see her (not saying I'm taking her to lunch, although I did ask that in an email) and they said she wasn't in. I then asked for someone in administration, which was the main reason I wanted to come in; to talk about AA to the patients. I talked to two people and one replied to come in when I have a year sobriety, February of next year. An email "I'm going to punish you and stop sending you these emails." Meaning they won't get to analyze me anymore by reading my emails ! Hopefully they will learn when I come in like suggested, a year sobriety (February). The next email i sent stated the last one was a joke. The document says I left after asking for her and didn't even state the main reason. I ordered 4 massive cakes for the entire facility for my 1 year anniversary. They wrote in the court document I sent her a gift (cake). Not 4 serving 200 people for the entire facility that cost me $300. I finally came in recently after waiting so long to volunteer and visit them and the CEO said my behavior was inappropriate and come in a year from now. I left then not wanting anything to do with them and stated that in an email. I get served with a court case a couple days later. A behavioral hospital that doesn't know how to deal with an autistic. I actually believed they did things to analyze/study you and that's why their reviews were bad. I know seriously believe they are bad. I'd make it a 0 star, but Google won't let me. Stay away from them or you'll go to court like me.
