I took a young adult to RHA on Biltmore Ave who had substance abuse problems, anxiety disorders, suicidal and has mental health issues. The first thing I noticed was the older blonde attendant at the front desk had a really sour look and attitude. I went with the 19 year old into be interviewed and the tone of voice by the bald headed man who gave the interview tone was smarmy and skeptical much more than it was then "I am here to help". The 19 year old had a out of county NC Medicaid card and was told it could not be accepted in Buncombe County. So the bottom line, the kid was put back out on the street with no help. The kid called the case worker in Eastern North Carolina and was advised that there was no reason that the RHA on Biltmore Ave in Asheville could not have accepted the Medicaid card. I could not believe what I witnessed. This is the single most poorest excuse for a medical treatment facility I have ever seen in my life. I am retired military, worked in 16 countries and have leaved in a dozen states. I never have seen anything like this place. I would not take a sick dog to this place let alone a person.

They're therapist are great listeners and great advisors. But only sucky part is I only get to see them ONCE a month for only a HOUR...i need more than that.

RHA is great if you're a drug addict or want to receive kindergarten style "self esteem" classes in a group setting. I went to RHA primarily needing evaluations. I had an interview with a retired coke head who gave me a vague and generalized diagnosis and tried to push me into group therapy which I did not want. She said I should get a medication assessment, even though I told her I had no interest in taking medications (the meds for depression/anxiety/etc. are dangerous and the last thing I want to do is mess with my brain chemistry). She said the med evaluation was so they could see if there was a physiological cause (which there is, I had brain damage as a child and have a neurochemical imbalance from it). So I missed my appointment in november, every time I called to reschedule in december I'd just get a voicemail and no return call, I was busy at the beginning of january and then at the end of january Janice was on vacation (the retired coke head). I finally get in touch with her on the 2nd and she has the audacity to treat me as if I'm just seeking drugs, that was bad enough. Then I get a formal letter of discharge today stating that I refused services from RHA and insinuating that I was simply seeking medications. If the only services RHA offers is group therapy they need to not call themselves health services. It's funny also, because during the interview she was talking about how much funding RHA gets. I can't help but think they're just a siphon of state funds pushing everyone into group therapy so they can get funding for a dozen people while only having to pay one retired coke head for an hour. I'm looking for another place I can get evaluations now and unless you want to be funneled into group therapy with a bunch of tweakers I'd recommend you look elsewhere as well.

I am lost, broken, depressed, I have anxiety, you name it i feel like i have it. Because of a lot of back to back pain I’m trying to deal with.. I was at the lowest part of my life and I have never felt that way before. When I went to this place i already had in my head that this will be a waste of time! But the God allowed me to talk with this amazing person .. she was kind, understanding, easy to talk to, she made my first ever experience comfortable. It took a few minutes but after I kept talking like I knew her for years!! When I left there for the first time in months I felt… free. I felt safe, and I also started to be myself again. Now I know I’m nowhere near healed but she helped me at that moment.. The only thing that sucked was she don’t do outpatient therapy only inpatient. I ain’t gonna lie I thought about trying to stay there just so I could continue to talk to her .. but seriously if you need help I would recommend going there. … if you ever read this just know that you are an amazing person and thank you.. hopefully I’ll be able to talk to you again.
