Been here for a week. Loved this place. Staff was caring and patient with other behavioral health patients. Some recommendations for the Behavior Health Unit is to clean the floors often and do Team Building daily instead of once a week. I feel bad for staff when they are harassed by other patients, and Dr. Strong has to come to our unit. Otherwise... Nice placee

This Place is not the Hilton Hotel, nor did I expect It to be, However, They did their job detoxing me from Xanax 7 day inpatient , Food was not great, They do not force anyone to attend the group meetings, they do encourage attending. The nurses were very good, always available to help the patients, answer question promptly, on time giving out medications. Upon discharge they recommend you to follow up on meetings such as A.A , N.A, Integrity house if needed. Happy I went, I am free from my addiction. Thank you all

A living hell hole is one way to describe this place. From sedating scarred and confused patients to letting mindless zombies roam the place high on drugs. The 1 time I let them take blood from me they lose it immediately and demand more. They over prescribe and don’t tell patients anything. They try to overstay patients to boost numbers. I would never recommend this place, as I was leaving the head doctor told me to leave a 5 star because of their failing Medical Center is only at a 2.4 star. Only few decent staff memebers in the entire place that can relate with the suffering patients. Also shout out to every patient who helped me through this awful ordeal. Disgusting

Since this place is under new management is day and night, the service is fast and the quality is excellent. The doctor's are honest and all tests can be done onsite so you don't have the need to go to multiple locations. The only thing I am not happy about is the long wait for some of the specialists.

I volunteeraly admitted myself. I had 3 debit cards. Docs & staff don’t really care. When I got discharged after 3-4 days I only received 1 debit card back. Cards are inactive. When admitted involuntary I would be force to stay months, but they can’t force me to take meds cuz I am diagnosed with ODD (opotional defiant disorder) they discharged me 45 minutes to an hour after I was suppose to be discharged. They also admitted me on false things. Been in & out involuntarily since prolly middle school days.(My insurance is private)

The treatment at this facility is Machevellian and it is incredulous that such a place exists in 2019. If you care about your family members and you have insurance, take them to Hackensack or another facility. If you make any complaints against the facility or the doctor's they take this as being non-compliant and hold you there longer. Dr. Prathila Nair was my doctor and she does not spend enough time talking to you. When she visited me one day in my room, she walked in and walked out without saying much at all. Speaking to her in the hallway or in front of staff, she would spend slightly more time. I made it a point to catch her in the hallway so that I couldn't be brushed off as easily. The staff members were very rude and when I asked them what I was taking they would get angry and would not want to inform me. The worst part of stay was the recreational therapist Toni Letterio. She was verbally abusive and referred to me as an "incompentent mental patient". She is more mentally unstable than the patients in the facility and should not be allowed to treat patients in this manner. Unfortunately, many of the staff members are on a power trip and don't care. In fact, when I would ask them a question they would be on their phones and would ignore me. Even asking the mental health assistant for a tooth brush warranted a sigh he said under his breath rudely "your just going to lose it". My family tried to get in contact with the doctor and the social worker Crystal but her phone but her phone was always straight to voice mail. The only way my family was able to get me out faster was to call my insurance company and complain that it was insurance fraud.

I’ve been to the detox here 3 times. The detox is not the nicest by any means but they medicate you and there isn’t much expected of you as far as going to groups and stuff. I went to the 21 day rehab twice and it really helped me. I first went in 2010 and I was a broken man so things like food and accommodations weren’t first on my mind. I needed to be somewhere where I could just focus on my addiction. The counselors running the groups were great in 2010 and the nurses and other staff were all great. I relapsed and ended up back in 2014. The program was still the same but the staff had changed. The staff was still good. This is a very no frills rehab and you will sit in a room all day for groups. Rec time is good and it breaks up the day a little. The food isn’t great but it’s only for 21 days. The fact that a charity care facility like this even exists is a blessing.

my son was admitted after suicide attempt. The er was a very cold place. His blood pressure was dangerously low and I had to tell the ER Doc to start IV fluids. Being a nurse, I watched not one blood pressure taken, and my son's wasn't taken until he was "medically cleared". At that time it was 72/25. I was in complete shock, thinking someone monitored the blood pressure. I had to confront the ER doc who informed me they treat symptoms not numbers. He is in BH unit now so I am going to hold my judgement in that department until I see more of whats going on. Please whenever you go to the hospital, take someone with you who knows what they are talking about. It may save your life.

I gave a 3 star because I have never been here but my wife is scheduled for her intake 7 am this Thursday 2/28... I will say though that the ungrateful patients posting these bad reviews have SO much nerve. Considering that this place is state funded and you get 3 meals a day and a bed to sleep in under medical surveillance all the while being medicated is pretty sweet compared to how many unfortunate ppl dont have access to those luxuries.... I have the highest hopes for my wifes experience with detox and the doctors and nurses at New Bridge... Take good care of the love of my life, please...

had to come back and edit my prior review. First let me just state facts, the 2x I brought my sister to be admitted, it took HOURS! Additional facts: the hospital was extremely busy... My sister is currently at this facility and I am beyond grateful for all of the staff members graciousness! From the security, to the nurses and especially the doctors. She is getting the care she needs and we look forward to her coming home and thriving! It was worth the wait. Thank you New Bridge Medical Center for all you do!!!

Many patients and families have questions about the professionality of many staff members from the house keeping to the Administration which is not accessible and doesn’t want to listen. I doubt some social workers had adequate training or personality to work in their field eg Stephanie. The patients and families take the facility as a very secured third world prison rather than a hospital for the most vulnerable patients. Hope appropriate state authorities look into this to verify this allegations.

I almost died here! I went before they changed the name. I had a seizure as soon as I left! I was treated like an inmate. Forced to iether eat pork products or starve to death. I asked for an ensure after 3 days of not eating and they refused. They pumped me with more meds instead. The staff is completely incompetent and careless. Good place to go if you’re interested in what prison feels like.

This hospital has many Departments. The worst department in this place is the Rehabilitation Center. I believe that when patients come to a medical place and are interviewed by anyone in the medical field or department, they should be interviewed in a room by themselves and asked privately as to why are they there for and so on and not to be treated like the rest and lack on a patient rights to privacy. If we are going to go by the Hippa Law, let's start there. Secondly, The Receptionist on the 3rd floor Michelle, is the worst individual to deal with. Very rude and unprofessional to the max. Not to mention, her intake skills along with customer service skills are very poor! How she interacts with other patients is very disgraceful and disgusting; VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I work in the medical field for 25+years and I have never treated a patient of mines nor any family members of any of my patients so rudely and so unprofessional. You need to be trained well!!!

This hospital should be closed - My friend is Mentally ill on 4 occasions she escaped from the ER and wandered from Paramus to Park Ridge. No accountability. A horrible place go to Hackensack Hospital you will be better off.

This place is absolutely the worst! The staff are so rude the place is disgusting. They doctors seem to not know what they’re talking about. Looks like it’s never cleaned. As far as the bathrooms I can’t even go past them. Every time I go in with my scheduled appointment they give me an attitude and make me wait for hours even if I go in early. It’s impossible to get in contact with them when or if I need to make an appointment. I have been to multiple hospital but have never seen anything like this or dealt with staff that have no patient care! Beyond disappointed with this place!

Horrible ! Horrible ! Horrible ! Nurses were annoyed when i asked "when is the doctor going to see me". The doctor ..forget about it!! No eye contact and rude as he can get. I had to walk to him while he was sitting on the counter staring at his computer to get some answers which I did not get because he was busy staring at his computer. I had to ask about what should I do and where should I go till i finally got treated. When i was a little impatient I was told by the doctor " you are making such a big deal! usually you would wait 12 hours at any ER".... Thank god I had to go for a minor thing and not for a life threatening injuries. Stay away from this place ! you walk around like you are invisible. I am sure they will reply to me saying : "We are sorry to hear what you have shared. It is a priority for us to ensure those we care for have the best possible experience at New Bridge Medical Center. We encourage you to speak to our director of patient relations at blah blah blah" work on your services instead of wasting time after the fact reading bad reviews!!!

Brought my mother to this facility she had dementia had to bring her to the emergency because she was violent and very agitated she was admitted 11pm and was discharged the next day at 2pm she passed her medical clearance and i wanted them to send a referral to christian healthcare so she could get therapy New Bridge would not send a referral so my mother could stay there for therapy when i told christian healthcare they said they should have sent the referral new bridge psychiatrist even suggested them to me New Bridge they are all disorganized i will never take my mother back there again

New Bridge Medical Center how can I describe it cold and dirty with employees that have no respect for each other never mind the patients. I have witnessed other employees speak to each other bad, ignore patients, kick garbage, have patients wait for their appointments for hours, patients sit at broken furniture, wheelchairs that are filthy, unhelpful people at the information area, dirty stairwells and hallways. Read the reviews this should be no surprise their all pretty bad. It’s sad that they say they have changed I don’t see anything changing other than lots of new people and lots of sad people. I am sorry I have no choice but to refer patients to you because honestly it’s hard to do it as I see nothing changed.

If I can rate this lower I would. I find it funny how in the health field, people advocate for people to speak to someone about mental health. But when the time comes, MY SISTER (WHO IS PREGNANT) AND HER HUSBAND ARE STILL CURRENTLY WAITING FOR HELP. It has been 7 hours and they are still waiting to be seen by a psychiatrist. I think it is unfair how they are being treated. 7 hours is a little excessive and being pushed down on the list to be seen is also unacceptable. Time Lapse (8h:15m): Entered room at around 1:30 pm, it is now 9:45 pm - still no psychiatrist

my daughter was lucky enough to be assigned to two of the most amazing people. First Dr David Schwartz Never did I met a more caring dr. in my life. He cares, he really cares about his patients. He took so much time with her, with me. Then a casework named Stephanie Knight. You can hear in her voice so much compassion on getting the right treatment for her client. My daughter was a patient of Judy Gurfein of Arista Counseling and the prescriptions my daughter was prescribed put her in the hospital so I have to thank the hospital for taking care of her

Wow a 2.4 rating it actually should be lower than that. My younger son and I had brought my older son Matthew into his scheduled detox at 10:30am yesterday(Tuesday) now mind you he was already detoxing as they were aware of before we arrived. He is waiting to be checked and was told after he was asked questions when did you use last he said Friday they said oh we can't admit you, but when he said he had taken xanex Friday they said oh ok that should still be in your system so we can admit you but the whole time Matthew could not stand on his own and was extremely weak the gentleman named Mike started to check him in and said he needs to go to the emergency room and had a Dr check him out and the Dr said send him right now and get fluids in him. They had told me he is going right to er you and your other son go get something to eat..We did and when I went to the er expecting to go back and see him hooked up to iv w/fluids he was right there when I walked in the door laying on 3 chairs so weak and so sick. My point is he should have been given fluids asap!! Then we get called into triage room to check his vitals bp was 147/98, then the rude nurse said only one of you in er come on Matthew I clearly said excuse me can you help me with him but she didn't so my other son did. I told her have a seat and relax because that's all you want to do you clearly weren't helping Matthew. She tells him to get on bed in hallway where he continued to be for 2 hours before they came and put iv in him to start the fluids and at least 2 hours to take his blood and another 1 1/2 to get results showing his potassium was extremely low..So they hooked him up with a drip. Matthew could finally give them a urine sample which took at least almost 3 hours to come back. Then couple hours later they took him to the 4th floor and we were told leave a few belongings but take his cell phone and wallet with you. I asked them how long do you think he will be here and was told until he is stable and go to detox. I let them know that we are not from around the corner we traveled 2 1/2 hours away. They said don't worry he will be fine. Matthew called me on the nurses desk phone which he did this morning he sounded great.. and was waiting to see the Dr. The Dr. came in and said it has been 5 days you are detoxed and discharged him 2:00, they were nice enough to give bus pass that takes him to Newark where my other son picked him up. By the time he got there to pick him up was almost 7pm as we live in Williamstown Nj. Luckily Matthew is safe and nothing happened to him like relapse right away because he was upset the way he was treated. If I would have known that Matthew was getting released today and not going to the detox then I would have taken him with me to Cooper ER to get checked out. And trust me they treat their patients like human beings I know people in this place wouldn't know about that. So with all of this being said I will give this facility one star and that is ONLY because of Mike in detox, Gina the director, the night security guard that resembled Kevin Hart in ER and the very nice night time nurse in ER. And I am very happy to say that I will never nor will my boys step in your facility ever again and feel very sorry for the people that have no choice.. Sincerely Karen

Doctor are great in talking to you in the ER and Security were doing there job correctly, very helpful for guards at the hospital. Front desk ER, front Desk main lobby and the front desk at the Behavior enterance information person were very nasty in giving me the patient information where she was at.

We were told there was going to be a bed in the detox available. We drove over two hours to drop our friend off. We get there, and they tell us they overbooked people, and there was no bed available. Are you kidding me?? This isn’t an airline. You can’t just reschedule us for a later flight. This is people’s lives you’re playing with here. Absolutely disgusting mismanagement of resources.

Went here to visit a loved one and was absolutely disgusted by the hospital staff and the state of the hospital. First, I used the public bathroom in the emergency room waiting room, there was no working water. How are people washing their hands with no working water in the restroom? There was dirt everywhere and to be honest it looked like the waiting area hadn't been cleaned in a few weeks. My loved one was sitting on a stretcher in a cubicle sized room with sheets on the stretcher that did not fit. There was milk cartons on the floor that were left there from someone before he arrived, dirt on the walls, it smelled like urine in the room, and he did not want to shower because there was blood in the shower stall. To be quite frank and using his own words, "This is why people don't want to get help for their mental health issues." He has been sitting in the ER now for 48 hours and is still waiting to be transferred, has been treated like an animal locked in a small room with nothing to occupy his time, and left with no treatment at all since he has arrived and is basically in a holding pattern. This establishment is disgusting, I would give it 0 stars if I could.

The staff has the nastiest attitude. From the office clerk to the pharmacy staff everybody is just so damn rude and not helpful at all. Every time I am there if i don’t have an unpleasant experience myself the person in front of me or behind me does. Staff needs replacement or improvement.

This is what I know about treatment there! They saved my life! I know if my dealer said to wait 12 hours I would wait if he said jump I would jump! Food when I was using didn’t matter to me or how people talk to me and treated me didn’t matter. All that mattered was the next one! Using took me to places that I would never dream of going clean! If you truly want to get clean and stay clean you will go to any length no matter what! Gratitude Speaks to the addict who is sick and tired of truly living the of just existing. When you are filled with desperation your opinion might be different! So to all the high class drug addicts, the ones that don’t know what desperation feels like, and the ones who quickly forget where they come from! I will pray for you!

This place is a nightmare, if you can avoid it, don't go. The nurses do not listen to you or treat you like an actual human, no matter what you're in for. I was sent to the ER psych ward for an eval with a psychiatrist. I was told I'd be there "a few hours," but I was kept all night with no food or water and was told I wasn't allowed to make phone calls or have visitors, even though it's actually still the ER and you ARE allowed. Also, the room was filthy, stains on the walls and floors, dirt and dust everything. Nothing that was done to me was explained by the nurses, they were very rough and rude, and I still have bruises from them taking blood and blood pressure even though I was polite and cooperative. The only nice person was a security guard who brought me magazines and said he could tell I didn't belong in there next to the drug addicts and genuinely mentally ill people. He was the only one who talked to me like an actual person with feelings, and he could tell I was scared out of my mind. If I had known how I'd be treated, I never would've agreed to go! The name change of this place can't change the interior; it should be shut down for good.

The worst experience ever in a hospital. How is it that my brother had to wait to be seen by someone 13 hrs!! We were never given any updates by the nurses and just spoke about anything and everything non work related. When we asked hey you have an idea how long? No, Just have to wait a little longer shouldn’t be long. No one ever approached us to tell us hey this is what’s going on and it will take a while to be seen. It can be anywhere from 3 hrs to possibly morning due to low staff and an abundance of patients. But never got updates, I had to get the Head of the ER involved because it was outrageous! That we had to wait so long for anyone to even speak to us or see my brother. She went into the computer and she told us that he’s going to be discharged after the doctor sees him. She had to track the doctor down and THEN 30 mins later he came to speak to my brother. So the head of the ER had to get involved, Yelled at a Philippino nurse that was there which she was terrible at her job. Only phrase that came out of her mouth was “just a little longer.”. Her boss while doing research yelled at her as to why we have been there so long without being seen and she didn’t do anything about it. First time I saw that nurse WORK because she was just useless. This hospital is the worst hospital I have ever been to and I will tell everyone I know and come across to never consider coming here for any type of treatment. Facility is dirty, you see roaches and spiders crawling everywhere, People clearly don’t clean. The “clean” sheets and not so clean and have stains on them. I had to look through a large bin to even find a clean one. Place is so pathetic, I am surprised it is still being funded despite the lack of efficiency and with the workers being extremely lazy. If you don’t want to work then just quit, You are being paid to do a job. Working is not fun which is why you’re getting paid to do it. Earn your money and not be such a terrible employee.

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I LIVE IN CAMDEN, NJ WHICH IS A 2 HOUR DRIVE AND I WAS LEFT WAITING FOR OVER 10 HOURS . I WAS TOLD INTAKE WILL TAKE 1-2 HOURS AND THEY LEAVE YOU WAITING FOR 10 HOURS BEFORE EVEN SEEING SOMEONE. THAT'S NOT THE KICKER I DROVE 2 HOURS, WAITED 10 HOURS, JUST TO BE TOLD THEY HAD NO AVAILABLE BEDS!!! THIS HAPPENED TO ME JUST A WEEK AGO, I'VE BEEN MEANING TO WRITE MY REVIEW, BUT I'VE BEEN BUSY. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE, DISGUSTING, DIRTY, AND UN ORGANIZED. YOUR NOT EVEN GUARANTEED A BED!

I was taken here against my will because I was taking pictures of my feet on a train track in Rutherford at night. I have a huge following on Instagram of Foot Fans and I have photographed my feet just about everywhere. Someone called the local police and when the cops arrived I was already done taking the pictures but they said they HAD to take me to New Bridge for evaluation (I was not drunk or anything of the sort; completely sober!). They told me I had two choices (1) Go willingly and it will not take so long or (2) go forcefully and it will take ages and I could get in trouble. They were serious. So I said "I have nothing to hide, so I guess I will take the easy route and lets get this done asap". I could NOT believe this was happening. I even showed them my foot pix all over my instagram page and they said they still had to cover their a*ses and do their jobs. I understood and was not angry at them at all; in fact the cops were very cool. They did not allow me to drive myself though. So it was a long drive and I was getting impatient in my mind thinking of all of the things I could be doing at home; working, sleeping, etc. But I was very calm. When we arrived I already sense the ice cold reception of the staff. I was dreading the moment that the friendly cops had to say goodbye. I felt like I was suddenly in the film "one flew over the cuckoos nest" and my smile turned to a frown. I knew I was in for a bad time. The Hispanic Ladies at the desk were rude, unfriendly, demanding and cruel from the get-go. It almost seemed they got off of being in control of "the crazy people". NOTHING wrong with me and I am very strong emotionally, physically and mentally BUT what if a fragile, depressed person was sent there? They would probably WANT to take their own life after such horrific treatment! I was ordered to hand over my purse, phone, all of my belongings and remove all of my jewelry and clothing immediately. They were raising their voices and me and ordering me around as SOON as they cops left. I was soft spoken and could tell if you DARED question them or tried to protest they would crack your skull or medicate you immediately which would take even longer. So I played along and even tried to make light of the situation and bring some humor into it. ONLY the older Polish lady has a heart there. The rest are snide and insanely MEAN. They forcefully took my blood and demanded a urine sample. They they took my temperature and told me it would take "about 6 hours" until I was evaluated. I told them I have a small child at home and the babysitter expedited me back. I asked them WHY couldn't I have my phone. Why not? I had emails to answer and social media to entertain. They told the giant security guard to tell me to shut up and sit back into my room. I was grabbed and shoved and have bruises all over my arms now. Finally a tall, thin, Caucasian lady who resembles Anne Hathaway came in with an Entitled attitude and asked me dozens of personal questions. I answered them all articulacy without a blip. She agreed there was "NOTHING wrong with me" and agreed I must be mistakenly in there. BUT I still had to wait another FOUR hours for the "social worker to give me recommendations" of where to go for mental health care IF needed". I was so furious and upset but did not make a scene. Instead I just stood in my appointed gown and wept silently. My tears were giant and hit the floor with a vengeance. I was looking at all of the doped up, medicated souls that lied around on cots in the hallways. How they must feel; they clearly preferred to be numbed up for days instead of sober and impatient like myself. I was yelled at repeatedly "SIT DOWN, relax!" but I did not want to relax, I could not relax, I was there but did not belong there. My freedom was taken from me. I am certain this is a scam to bleed medical insurance for money. This is a BUSINESS in NJ. They make patients feel stupid. They have securities looking after patients instead of hiring trained professionals who are familiar with proper patient care. First off, if youre one of the people posting reviews here with the intention of discouraging others from going to this hospital you need to stop that right now. If you're point is that you think people should seek help somewhere other than Bergen Regional then you should state that clearly. If a person does not have health insurance and they can not afford to pay for rehabilitation themselves then usually the only option available to them is to go to BRMC for treatment. We've watched as the opioid epidemic has shattered countless lives amd ripped apart so many families. For many people struggling with addiction BRMC is their only hope. For so many people to write reviews telling others not to go because they felt someone had been rude to them or because they believed the wait was to long are absolutely ridiculous complaints. The one thing that everyone who wrote a review has in common is that they were all alive to be able to write it. To suggest someone shouldn't go to a place that could save their life because of some trivial, petty experience is extremely dangerous. If you want better service at a nicer place than go get it. I know if the hospital hadn't footed the bill for all these unhappy people then detox would've been over $20,000 and the 21 day program would've cost them around 60,000. People die every single day while waiting and trying to get in to that hospital. But these people got in and where told they didn't have to pay one cent of the nearly 100,000 bill not only that but when they approve you for charity care they approve you for an entire year. So outpatient, aftercare, meds, additional detoxs if needed are already covered. You leave and the offer you an iop program 3 days a week for a couple hours or if you need still more intensive program they have a full day program that you can start the next day. They give you a bag of your meds and a paid bus pass to get you where you need to go. Who cares about all that though after all the one nurses wasn't up to your lofty professional standards and dare I say she was even rude. Of course you should tell people what a terrible place it was and let them know all you got was an attitude. Forget the 100,000 and the chance at a new life it isn't worth having to deal with someone that wasn't very nice to you. I doubt it's because you're detoxing and your extremely irritable and overly emotional. I mean sure that nurse probably is severally underpaid and overworked plus she gets yelled at and cursed out half a dozen or so times a day. That doesn't mean she can't be a little more professional when the guy in detox who is simultaneously crapping his pants while nodding in and out of consciousness is standing in front of her trying to make her understand that they screwed up his med order and she needs to increase his dosage.

I went to the ER. Only like 3 people spoke English, chairs and sheets are covered in stains, no doors to the rooms (curtains). There was someone getting an IV in the hallway, and that’s where she was put too. Staff is untrained, rude, and uneducated. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I would give it zero stars if I could. I called for alcohol rehab info. The so-called intake rep was beyond rude. If that is the standard of their assistance and programs, run as fast as you can to another facility. The intake rep insisted they don't take Medicare HMOs and refused to believe that I did not have an HMO, never did, and never will. Plus it's "2-4 men to a room" even when speaking with a woman. He acted as if he was doing me a favor. The intake rep treats you as if you're a common criminal and not as a dedicated medical professional. Ergo, they're not. Go away.

WORST DETOX IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION. Made an appointment and was asked to be at the hospital for the 7am intake session. As of 3pm my daughter was still wandering the hallways waiting for a bed. How long do they think an individual with an addiction problem can hold on for help!

Being subjected to the abuse and negligence of this facility leaves me at a loss for words. How? How could this be the United States of American? What happened to our constitutional Rights? If we can not protect our most vulnerable citizens what does this say about our country? Americas most vulnerable citizens constitutional rights are being violated. This is no secret. How can our government allow this to continue to happen? This is a disgrace to our country. The abuse that the disabled, elderly, and mentally ill suffer from at the hands of employees at institutions such as Bergen Regional is very serious as well as life threatening. The treatment is barbaric. It is hard to believe that human beings in our country could be held hostage behind the walls of Bergen Regional treated as prisoners at the mercy of the hands of employees who seem not to have any respect for human life. There should be an undercover investigation of this barbaric facility. Patients have died due to abuse and negligence that is common place here. Numerous cases have been documented. Lawsuits have been won against this institution, but it can not bring a loved one back. Hearing from employees who would like to tell me how great this place is and how unfortunate it is for me to have had a bad { isolated } experience, do your homework. Absolutely NOT an isolated experience. I can only hope that you and your loved ones will NEVER suffer at the hands of such abuse. An absolute disgrace to our country.

Was helping a friend who needed charity care and took him here. I am absolutely astonished at the complete lack of respect and basic human decency from this staff. From the people working the admissions and billing desks to the "doctors" and nurses. Not even one single caring, somewhat decent person to be found along the way. I have never come in contact with a more rude, miserable, unhelpful group of people. If your workplace makes you this unhappy, then maybe it is time you all find new jobs. We went to both the ER and the outpatient clinic on multiple days and this place is so incredibly disorganized it is no wonder patients can't be seen and are waiting hours and hours on end. If you have any other option besides this joke of a facility, go with it. I truly feel for the people desperate for care who are forced into going here. Absolutely disgusted. You are a disgrace to the medical field.

I only come here for BH outpatient services, but I have to say that for a public hospital, it's been a pretty great experience. I don't like the extra paperwork and time that's wasted in the waiting room and registration prior to EVERY appointment (arrive early, seriously) but the staff is friendly, does their job, and definitely tries to go above and beyond despite the place being clearly underfunded. I've had bad experiences with previous doctors who just threw prescriptions at me, most of which I couldn't take due to various health issues, but Dr. Pimentel is very considerate and connected me to yoga and therapy that's helped me get my life back. I can't vouch for inpatient or the ER, but the bad reviews really freaked me out prior to my first appointment with BH, so I wanted to leave this in case anyone else is taking that route. Don't worry like I did. You're gonna get the help you need here.

I understand this is not the Ritz Carlton but this hospital helped my brother tremendously with his alcohol addiction. Coming from Monmouth County where there is no help for those without insurance finding this hospital was a blessing for our family. They guided him on an outpatient basis and gave him medication to ensure his success and he has now passed his 1 year mark for his sobriety. He did not like the inpatient facility but luckily he was strong enough to do it the other way. He was READY though. That's the key. If you have a loved one who is ready and determined, they will surely benefit from the help this facility provides.

It depends on what you go there for. You also have to "get lucky" with what doctor you are assigned to. Not the best place to be inpatient but as far as a hospital to go when you are in a mental health crisis for outpatient services it's really the best there is in the area. The partial day programs for mental health/addiction counseling are also very decent.

This is ER is a disaster and completely incompetent. I spent 8 hours there and was never seen by any one. To boot they continue to harass me for insurance payments while I have been on top of the bill the entire. I have continued to receive letters and phone calls after I have called my insurance to confirm they were paid. Never go here if you can avoid it. Would give them a negative rating if I could.

The staff was unprofessional. They left a family member of mine sitting on a chair for six hours, took blood from her in that same spot (with other patients sitting next to us) and to top it off my family and I was insulted by a transporter because we were sitting on the other side of the door that the security officers were supposed to open. No worker were in site to let them through so the transporter started insulting my family and I for not being able to find a staff member for her. An argument started and the security officers (when they all decided to show up) told me to go get that tranporters name for a complaint on my own. They did nothing, and didn't care. And most of all they didn't care for my family member properly. Horrible experience and I would never recommend anyone go there.

Admitted for depression one week goes by and they continue to press me to talk about my non-existent drug problem. Other than participating in addiction based group therapy there was not one talk therapy sessions offered. 7 weeks after discharge they still only want to address my addiction and have offered a talk therapy sessions but I still can't get an appointment FOR DEPRESSION to make good on that offer. They refused to refill my psych meds which I only took because being told I would not be discharged without compliance and now with several co-morbitities I am having horrible side effects from cold turkey decompensation. Don't get me started on the foul food, and the dehumanizing experience of being locked on a unit with all rights stripped. Overall, after dealing with this and trying to get help I feel more helpless, overwhelmed, and suicidal than the day I was brought by ambulance. This should be criminal.

I work at a dialysis facility and tried to call and reach the long term care facility to make some changes per the patient's doctor. The operators tried to connect me but I heard the nurses on the floor pick up the phone and hang up twice. Then I attempted to call the hospital up three times and no one picked up the main line, no operators or anyone. Go here when you want to be forgotten not taken care of. I have only been to this hospital TWICE in my life. The FIRST time was LAST YEAR after my EX-Alcoholic girlfriend who's almost 20 years older than me, kicked a fridge door in on my head while I was reaching for a water bottle. "Nothing belongs to you in my fridge", she said even though it was the case of water I got for us the night before. Long story short. After I finally got off the floor once the stars stopped spinning; this drunk woman said she would drive me back to my apartment but instead dropped me off at this terrible poor excuse of a hospital. She called me crazy and said I needed help. I waited 7 hours to be told i may have a concussion by these unprofessional doctors and employees. I'm here again. Thought I would give them a second chance. The problem i came into the emergency room was with bug bites, related to scabies. And mentioned that the bites were driving me crazy, that I need medical attention cause I can't live like this anymore. I'm disabled, due to mental stress and also due to a suicide attempt I luckily survived 3 years ago. Irrelevant

This is the worst hospital, the food is untimately horrible. The care is not so great. The emergency room charges over a thousand dollars, and out of network doctors charge 1700 or more for a one time visit. This hospital is a weak institution and there raping you of your money to pay for the charity care patients and the ones that cant pay. I will never go there ever again..... the staff is so rude and unorganized. i waited hours to be released. then i had to go to security to get my wallet and keys and stuff and i had to wait for a security guard to come and get my stuff. i had to wait for that too. There was no transport so they gave me bus tickets and or i had to pay for car service. Other hospitals give you some transport home if you don't have any money. The front desk people are rude and don't care. unbelievable ......

I am a liver transplant patient and even though they had my meds they did not give them to me for 5 days. When my daughter came to visit me I was sitting in a wheelchair in a room somewhere in the hospital. She said I had no idea who I was, who she was and I was obviously jaundice since my skin was bright yellow. I was transferred to a transplant hospital nearest to this hell where they stabilized me and told me I was as close to death as a human could be and still be alive. I have NO memories of what happened at Bergen which considering what my daughter saw, I am truly grateful. I also do not think they should get any stars but should be shut down!!!!

My brother went there for help with detoxing. He thought the place was great. Yea the food is lousy and the staff can be hard to deal with, but try finding help in this state and there is no where that will help you without insurance. Summary: staff seem to really care, no smoking, bad food, only decaf coffee, no prescriptions for when you leave, and its overcrowded. Despite all this I had a good experience. I went to the Detox program because they accept Medicaid. I had a good experience, everyone had a good attitude and wanted to help, but they are definitely stretched to their limit. It is hard to see your counselor and impossible to see the doctor. You can't bring your cell phone and need to meet with the counselor to use theirs. They don't let you smoke once you enter the waiting room and you can't go back downstairs or they will kick you out. You must arrive early to be admitted and you must have used your DOC withing 48 hrs of admission, otherwise medicaid won't pay for detox if you are already halfway done your withdrawals, but there is no way for them to know so just say you used last night. It took about 5 hours of waiting and filling out forms to be admitted, another hour to see the doctor, and about 20 minutes after that they give you medication for withdrawals and a nicotine patch if you need it. The treatment is the same for everyone depending on which drug you use. For alcohol they give librium and stay for 5 days, for opiates they give suboxone for 5 days, I'm not sure about benzo's but you stay for 7 days. They give you plenty of meds for other symptoms like vistiril for anxiety, neurontin for restless legs, flexiril for muscle cramps, clonidine for high bp, motrin for pain, some kind of sleeping pill, and maybe more depending on what other conditions you have. There are NA and AA meetings 2-4 times a day, and a counselor lead group session 1-2 times a day. Entertainment is limited to tv, books, and cards. For suboxone it is a taper, 8mg all at once as soon as it has been 24hrs since your last high(don't take it too soon or you will precipitate withdrawals), the next day 4mg in the morning then 2 more 2mg doses, third day 2mg 3 times a day, then 2 mg two times a day. A lot of people chose to skip doses if they were feeling okay so that they would have less withdrawal from the subs once they left. Other people chose not to take subs at all and just use the other meds to get through withdrawal. On the fifth day they wake you up at 5:00am and ask you to get ready to leave. You get one last dose of suboxone 2mg. Then they let you leave 2 at a time. Security will give you a bus pass but you must wait until 7am for the pass and 11am for the bus..

This is a bullshit clinic and they just want your money i went in there to talk to someone about my moms passing and i volenterally walked into the building and they sat me down and tried to force me to change and take test. Reminder i volenteered to go there myself. Then they are saying on paper i am suicidal. Just to keep me there treating me like i am an idiot lying to me about what they are trying to test me for trying to take all my belongings. I dont care what their job is they just will do anything to make an extra buck. Luckily enough one nurse realized im normal and stopped treating me like im psychotic. I told them stop questioning me like im one of your practice dumbies. Who are they to say i have to pee i a cup or draw blood from me? I volentarily walked in so why are you trying to dress me up and keep me there for ten hours or more. This place does not want to help they want to find any excuse to keep you there. They thought i was stupid enough to just pee in their cup and let them take blood. So they can make up a lowsey excuse as to why im suicidal supposably. So i get up and tell them your not taking my phone and someone lied and put in the computer system i am suicidal i told them i never knew it was possible my iphone can kill me. Worst treatment ever i am a normal human with i miss my mom who just passed in june with stage four lung cancer no one said i wanted to kill myself or never even worded it that way. These people here get a lowsey degree to just give bullshit to people who just want someone to talk to. Now i am going through extra paperwork and now somehwhere on a file it says i am suicidal i want that removed immediatly false claims just to force yourself into thinking you are crazy. You guys are crazy for trying to bullshit people to grab some cash. But god forbid a normal citizen bullshits someone then there would be a lawsuit. But since the government backs you up you guys take advantage of your power.

3 of my friends have been sent here and also went here to get drug help and it is in no way a good facility that can actually manage and help people with serious problem solving regarding life some people are great people and others horrible but the overall rating is very low

I work in the private rehab marketing field & with some of the nicest in the country & have only givin 1place ever 5star b4 (also once a junky who been here few x's b4 recovering??) I give it 5 stars because they are 100% free & only about helping! 1's who say different after going there should stop getting high if they don't like it & or try saving $ to put down on a private healthcare policy (lol) & then you can come to us &complain when not liking the service you get after begging to let 9/10 of you guys in I'm sure & once years ago did to but damn like never was ingreatful as some peps reviews!??

This is the worst hospital I have ever visited. I am a paraplegic ahd need handicapped parking to transfer to my wheelchair, I cannot find HC parking because they do not have the required number of HC spaces and the few HC spaces are often occupied by vehicles without HC plates or plackards. I also could not find a Wheelchait accessible toilet room in the building dispite HC toilets being required by law for the past 30 years. My daughter is in the hospital and was recently transfered to another unit and I cannot find out what unit she is in. I called 7 times and was transfered to phones that no one answered. When I was transfered to the unit where she was they would not tell me what the unit was or when I could visit her. They gave me the phone number of a public phone in the day room only. This place is a hole and needs to be administered by someone who cares instead of the clowns that run it now.

THIS IS THE MOST DISCRACEFUL PLACE YOU COULD EVER BRING A DOG TO.NEVER MIND A LOVED ONE. I MEAN THE THE CG UNIT ONLY THE MOST HORRIFIC- BARBARIC DISGUSTING PLACE ON EARTH. THE PATIENTS ARE MISTREATED NOT FED,NOT BATHED, SEVERLY OVER MEDICATED THIS UNIT SHOULD BE CLOSED AND CONDEMED. THE 1 NURSE FOR EXAMPLE LAUGHED AT US, BC I WAS UPSET CRYING BC THEY HAD MY DAD SO DRUGGED UP TO THE POINT OF COMATOSE.....DR HOUSSON IS THE WORST PATHECTIC SO CALLED DOCTOR YOU COULD EVER DEAL WITH. THIS UNIT HAS BE REPORTED TO THE BOARD OF HEALT AND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

I would never go to this hospital again. The ER staff is so unhelpful and rude. The doctor was uncaring and unprofessional. If I could I wouldn't give it more then one star. I don't how the rest of the hospital is but the ER need a lot of improvement.

I had a very bad experience . As I waited 7 hours in a room for a bed that I already had reserved, extremely sick, only to listen to the nurses in the other room screaming and laughing about a YouTube video one of the nurses was playing on her phone over and over again . very professional. I will never refer this place ever

I had the worst experience of my life yesterday.I am 63 years of agr.I have the name of the Attending MD but not the young woman who witnessed it. I will not mention the attending MDs name in a post at this time.I think the woman said she was a student. She was very kind but unfortunately the Attending MD was quite the opposite to put it extremely mildly.If I could I would honestly give it zero stars. Message to the owner: .
