Horrible communication between social work and staff. Social worker, Eva, made me feel awful for asking questions about my son's care. He was discharged without a family meeting, which is supposed to be a standard at their facility. After 3 days on new medication, I made my concerns known about how worried I was bringing my son home. Upon discharge my concerns were made again and I was told they would try to get authorization for him to go to a day program. When I called back today, 2 days after discharge, still no progress with the facility. I get Eva who refuses to try to help me again. All that is needed is an authorization from my insurance so my son can go to a day program. All the while, my son is right back in the same position as he was prior to hospitalization. Never in my life have I ever worked with anyone who cares about their patients less. I work in the healthcare field and the state would be smart to do more checks, especially on the social work side of things. Absolutely furious.

What a dump. The longer your child stays the more money they make. Don't forget that. If its my child I should be able to remove them when i want. The Dr is not the parent nor judge therefore has no right to tell me no. Threaten me with CPS. Wow, don't call the people that actually CARE about children. Dr said Saturday he may leave. So he'll be leaving Saturday one way or another.

It's a 1 star review cause I can't place a 0 star review My daughter was at this facility and each day I felt sick that she had to be there. On visiting day as I walked through the facility I wondered how in this very dismal place could anyone get mentally healthy??? The walls and the ceiling were this horrid color of green, the windows in the room we sat in were filthy, how can a "hospital" be so filthy ... it was gross ... cobwebs, dirt, dust ... there was one picture on the wall, but that was it. The furniture was very uncomfortable and ugly. They charge enough money, one would think they could make it more cheerful for those who are in there because they are depressed! My daughter said the food was disgusting (actually made her sick) and often cold. I know for a fact that the staff will tell you anything, but once you are out those doors the compassion goes with you. My daughter had an infection from the IV, it was small, but it was an infection. I told the nurse, the blonde lady, that she needed something, and she said, sure will get her neosporin ... never happened. She arrived in the evening, but the following evening they still did not fill my daughter's prescription, so we have this very depressed young lady and no anti-depressants! Next time, I take the doctor to court and refuse inpatient ... she can not ever go back to that facility, they really need to be closed or reinvented and everyone let go. However, I will say that the social worker she had was helpful. So I guess 1 star because of that social worker! Nadene I think it was.

Worst ever!!!!!!!! My grandson was over medicated to the point of almost being a zombie. They don't understand or even try to understand a child's issues. They drug them up so they don't have to deal with it. A horrible, awful place. The police were called twice, they keep changing their stories, etc. Child Protective Services has been notified. DO not bring a loved one here, EVER!

Possibly the WORST facility in the Michigan Mental Healthcare system. 1.Horrible Communication with staff. 2.Placing all kids in a day room for 12hrs., is not treatment. 3. Understaffed and Uncaring. Hope was high going in, just to find another facility that is not about treatment at all. Just housing kids to get money from the State. Shameful situation...

I came here when I was sucidal, It felt like a prison/asylum, The place has harsh/unsanitary conditions. I agree with these people who are also complaining here on the comments about this prison place that I was once at, They gave me a IM injection and now I might have a permanent needlestic injury in my left leg no thanks to them. The only thing that I at least liked was a descent meal... F*!k that place! ?

I was here for detox from alcohol. Dorthy was very helpful and took care of everything before I got there. She greeted me at the door when I arrived and was then taken care of by very nice folks. I was here for 28 days and my experience was awakening. Melissa and James treated me like family and are the best nurses I met. Duane is really fun and he motivates you to stay. Thank you Harbor Oaks!

Horrible experience!! They are understaffed, had to wait 3 hours to get checked in even though I had 0 alcohol in my system. They have addicts not counselers running their group therapy sessions. They do not care if inmates develop physical relationships!! Other rehabs strictly prohibit people of the opposite sex from communicating. My sister picked up some addict there and have had several addicts contact her via phone because she was lonely and thought they "understood he"r. Well, all they do is call her asking her to bring cigarettes, money ect. This place should have a strict policy from allowing its patients from exchanging phone numbers so once they are out then they can focus on their own sobriety not bumming money etc from vulnerable former patients who need to focus on their recovery instead of being used and or victimized.

I was hospitalized here recently for depression. I was skeptical about going here due to the reviews, and not to mention the 2 hour drive to get there but staff at the emergency room reassured us I would be taken care of. Well I went and I am glad did. I am doing much better, and I have good support system that Harbor Oaks set me up with outside the hospital. I have never been hospitalized before and they made me feel safe. For all its worth, ignore the reviews.

You leave more depressed leaving than going in , the Social workers are uneducated , old dirty hard beds feels like a prison under staffed and un organized ,, they also kept trying to give me the wrong meds because I had the same name as another patient, please stay far away from this place is a joke !!!! I was taken advantage of both mentally & physically by BHA staff of the other sex, after the sexual encounter she convinced me we should have she left for another job at an investment firm. I am worse now than before thanks Hope! (Anyone who knows her last name please do tell.) Ive already contacted legal aid & my own attorney Hope will never have a job again

My 36 yr old son has severe depression and is Bi-Polar. He has needed counseling and other services for a long time, but he refuses to believe that he needs help. When a crisis happened in his home and the police took him here I was so relieved. I read the information on the website and thought for sure this would be the start of the help he so desperately needs. He was admitted for 9 nights and then released in no better shape than he went in. He has Medicare and Medicaid so I know his stay was covered financially. When we and other family visited him they gave us a survey to fill out at the end of the visit, One of the questions was "Do you think that the patient is ready to go home?" We all answered NO and provided an explanation for our answer. Now we find out that they gave the papers to him!! This place is a JOKE! Still looking for help some where, but I am seeing the same type of reviews on other websites for "Crisis Centers" and "Mental Health Services" every where near him.

i was a patient in the adolescent ward from december 16th 2017 to december 25th 2017, i was 14 years older when i was admitted and turned 15 on the 21st of december. i wholeheartedly do not reccomend this facility. i was admitted to harbor oaks after being at beaumont hospital for a week, after committing suicide. the royal oak hospital is 110% better than this “treatment facility” i was forced to take off my clothes, except for my underwear due to the fact i was on my period, but had to have my bra off. it was female staff members, so i don’t know if legally anything is wrong with that situation. i was given a bed, that was extremely small and gave me intense back pains, there was hair all over my bed before i even slept in it, i knew it wasn’t from my roommate who was blonde. in my room me & my roommate complained about the foul state of our bathroom, there was mold in it & nobody seemed to take our concerns seriously. when i spoke to the first psychiatrist, he seemed to tease me about what i was going through, i had told him about how i had attempted to run away from an abusive situation at home & how i called cps, he then said that the physical discipline was something that i had to deal with & i probabaly deserved it. on visiting days my mother would make me cry and i would spend hours in the cafeteria/ group session/ school / hangout area, crying my eyes out. i got sleeping medication that i know cannot go without & i don’t want, i believe i couldn’t sleep because of the stress, but now i have sleeping medication as though i have a sleeping disorder. the food is disgusting. i was already skinny from lack of eating and stress but when i came back, i was so skinny and my hair was such a mess that my friends said i looked like a different person. i sobbed on my last day, not wanting to go to my home, which nobody cared about. a month later i began self harm that was more intense than what i’ve been used to. since leaving the facility i feel a bit better with outpatient therapy. but i won’t forget the trauma i felt or saw others face. also, if you have issues with this place, good luck using patient rights, me and some other girls tried to figure out how we could. but we had no idea.

LONG but worth a read for parents!! THIS PLACE IS AWFUL!! PARENTS BEWARE!! Was told it was a great drug treatment center for my teenage son and the hospital transferred him there. He was going crazy in there with a kid trying to eat towels, kids being hit with tranquilizers because they were running and screaming and hitting people, and not enough staff to control them, and begged me to get him out! Talked to the case worker and told her it wasn't helping him and that I wanted to take him out. She got VERY rude and threatened that if I tried taking him out without the doctors permission they would call CPS. I laughed and said "I put him in, and I will find another facility". The next day, I spoke to the doctor who said he felt he could be discharged and do an intensive outpatient treatment, and that's exactly what the discharge papers he gave me said. We picked my son up at 8:30 p.m and by 9:15 p.m I got a phone call from CPS that said she would have to come out the next morning, and I had to keep my other kids home for her to interview as well. The case worker called a complaint in with CPS that said "they took our suicidal son out of our care to a house full of guns". Need less to say, as soon as CPS came we showed her the discharge papers, we showed her our two guns in their locked fingerprint reading case, and at the end of the visit she was angry! She actually told my husband and I that if we would ever consider fostering, to please give her a call!

Honestly, I don't want to write this review. This hospital has hurt me in a way that I will not recover from. The staff is terrible, the food is sickening, and they do absolutely nothing to help. In August, I was admitted here as inpatient for suicidal ideations, self harm, and destructive behaviours. All from the childhood trauma that I have gone through. Was forced to wait in the waiting room for at least three hours ( even though we were told that there were open beds ) before somebody came to talk to us. The man was not paying attention; he just seemed eager to leave work. He didn't take the time to ask what was going on, he just threw me in inpatient. While in there, I was forced to eat meat ( I'm vegan, by the way ) because they were scared I would develop an eating disorder or something. They also, to my joy, placed me on the ' boy's side ' of the children's ward. ( I'm a FtM trans male, so I really enjoyed this. Probably the only good thing about the stay ). Staff members told me I wasn't a real boy a day later, and I was put back on the ' girl's side '. This went back and forth the entire five days I was there. I was supposed to only be there for three days, but after an incident with another patient, I was given extra days. The entire time there, I was not left alone by other patients. I was constantly sexually harassed by others, and one 17-year-old patient grabbed me and drug me into his room before attempting to rape me. I was 12 at the time. At one point, I slapped this boy to get him to leave me alone. I was the one punished for it. The ' psychiatrist ' there was clearly not a native English speaker, and it was very hard to understand the questions he asked me , which led to multiple misdiagnosis. Before I went here, all I was medically diagnosed with was depression and anxiety. After leaving, I had a long list of ' mental illnesses ' that didn't apply to me in any way that I was lut on useless meds for. The medication led to psychosis and hallucinations, which led to more suicidal thoughts. I am now in a worse place than ever after coming to H.O.H. The other patient touching and attempting to rape me has left me with PTSD, and I can barely leave the house anymore in fear that he will find me Once again, Harbor Oaks did nothing about this. If you are seeking mental asylum or anything, please do not come here. They are not for your recovery. They are there for your money. They will put you on meds you don't need. They will drain your bank. They will ruin your life. -Ryan

Awful place. Doctors and rns need to be fired. One of the Doctors has a drinking issue and made poor decisions with a patient he forcefully held for 14 days we had to fight to get this person released. Thank God we did. Ans what they seen in there was awful.

Absolute worst hospital ever they try and drug your children they have a psychiatrist that has a three not even hardly a three star I don’t even know if he got his degree in our country I don’t know if he spent 10 to 12 years in medical school my son is on Medicaid they were trying to keep him there for 2 to 3 weeks my son is not psychotic they’re trying to give him psychotic medicine if you have a child and you love them and they’re going through some problems God help them don’t send them they’re the worst hospital they will not let you see your child they try to drag your child they were shut down for like six months for allegations of sexual and physical in overmedicating abuse if you have any care for your child never send them their worst hospital ever they should be shut down again it is Christmas morning and they will not let me see my sonIf they don’t think that’s more detrimental to my son and making them healthy they’re wrong the boy needs to be home and they need to be shut down please please please never ever send your child or adult to Harbor Oaks they were abusive and insurance fraud

Parents this is the worst facility every day I called CPS on them and I called the police to do a wellness check is they will not let me know so anybody that has a child in there every day called new Baltimore police to have a wellness check on your child and call CPS every day I’m reading these reviews these kids are getting raped my 16-year-old son is in there if he gets raped or he gets drugged oh I’m trying to get this place shut down we need to form a petition I’m going to channel 7 channel 2 and channel for anyone that will listen we need to get this place shut down it is I don’t know what it is it should be shut down the people in there should be sent to psychotic hospitals they’re all sick every individual that works in there makes me want to vomit they’re a bunch of sickos the staff sucks they suck thereThey’re terrible they do not care about you we need to have them all removed and fired

I was their when I was a kid, they put me in the retarded unit because the other one was full, the staff put me on medication on the first day (as soon as I got there) and would experiment on me having me on different medications when I have done nothing wrong or harmful to me or anyone else. If I refused they would have forced it in me with a shot, I had to sleep with one eye open and the staff would open the door to check on me which would not only make noise but bring light inside so it was hard to sleep. The raghead for a doctor was behind most if not all of it, he would not place me in the right unit and was not very communitive or caring. SEND YOUR KIDS TO BORGESS IT WAS ACTUALLY REHABILITATING AND I ENDED UP CREATING GOALS WHILE INSIDE.
