Yet again worst experience ever. They don’t listen. No one in the ER and still waited an hour. Veterans hospital is so far away for emergency, and I was hoping to get some sort of relief. Nope just another worthless emergency visit. While all your workers sit around and joke like there is nothing to be done. Dirty examination room. Water or spit on the chairs. Sickening. Get your act together and show people you care.

Absolute nightmare! They waited hours to tell my wife and I that our unborn (at the time) child's blood pressure was dropping until it reached the point an emergency caesarean was needed! FYI, they knew it was steadily dropping early on. It's rather personal, but please know the former was the result of the umbilical cord wrapped twice around our child's neck. Further, they did not help my wife who at the time could not breastfeed our child. They begrudgingly gave her a bit of donor milk and just left her (mind you she just had invasive surgery). There is much more and to make a long story short, I'm glad we are no longer living in that area. The only reason I am giving them one star is because I can't give them less and atleast the room was clean. Also, if a woman cannot produce enough breast milk, they need to stop pushing it and at the very least provide the option of formula. Finally, if there is a problem before labor, the family has THE RIGHT TO KNOW instead of being kept in the dark until you rush in and decide invasive surgery is immediately needed!!! I waited a while to share this experience. Thankfully our little one is happy and healthy. However, it doesn't take away from the nightmare of being kept in the dark by them. Patient care is more than just a clean room and minimal room visits by nursing staff during a stay. It's about keeping your patient informed, having (at least) empathy and advising patients of all options.

It's scary to know this is your hospital. This hospital's whole program needs something changed. It's obviously not being run right. Needs all new higher-ups and maybe even some of the staff. The people running the show are doing a horrible job.

I went to ER because I was pregnant and bleeding. The ER staff was wonderful so nice and attentive. The doctor wanted a pelvic ultrasound and it was a Sunday so someone had to be called in. The ultrasound tech said "I don't know why they called me in I will not be able to see anything your not far enough along. " I was so angry but was more focused on what was happening with my pregnancy than causing a scene. They made an appointment for me to go back a couple days later and have my quant numbers checked two different times. Both times I went to the office they could not find any information on me and did not know I was even supposed to come in. I will never go back to that joke of a hospital. That's not all but I don't need to blow this review up as I'm sure not many people read them.

Maybe one time in my entire 25 years of life, I have had a good experience in this "Kevorkian paradise." The astounding amount of people that have died of negligence here really shows the staffs total disregard for the medical profession, and the oaths they swore to upkeep. Not to mention the fact they'll defend their irresponsible staff to the end.

This is honestly the worst Hospital in the entire United States. They don't care about you nor do they care about your well-being. My best friend has been in pain for the last 3 weeks and during labor pain and they did nothing for her and acted like they did not care. Finally, after weeks and weeks of complaining she was having contractions 2 to 5 minutes apart which were documented on the monitor. They induced her. At this point when I drove 4 1/2 hours to see her. They decided that I was not allowed to bring my five-year-old in the room even when she was not actually giving birth to her baby. They made no exceptions nor did they try to even accommodate with this. She has no family or friends anywhere in the area. She is a single mom and is dealing with a lot of emotional depression. I can honestly say I hope this Hospital shuts down. THe worse Hospital don't ever come here they will be rude to you and do not even care about you, this is coming from watching my best friend go through emotional hatred from these people. And she is the sweetest person in the world

My review is about the reviews. Though I was only looking at the hospital reviews to decide how the medical is in Burlington before purchasing a beautiful home I had my eye on... I decided against buying that or any house in Burlington as good healthcare is of the utmost importance to me. I have never seen so many poor reviews for a hospital before. Now you could not pay me to live in Burlington. Sad... because it was such a beautiful home at such a great price. My advice for the Director/Management staff at the hospital is to retrain your staff immediately. Consider using Disneyworld's staff training program as University of Iowa Hospitals did. What a big difference. I was so impressed with their staff. I learned long ago that word of mouth can be both your best and worst form of advertising. I owned seven businesses over the years and I always made sure the customer/client felt so good they would tell others. No matter how rude or difficult a customer or client was... I always made sure they felt like they were the most important person in the world.

The hospital gets rid of dr.s that are family orientated. My gastro dr was the best ever. patience, and caring. Sits and explains and then does the procedure. He is an amazing dr and it's sad to see him go. I dont think right!! And I dont want to go to any other gastro there cus it's not the same. They just want to get you in and out. I dont want that. You will be missed!!!

Traveling from Central Illinois over a few Saturdays, I was amazed how beautiful this facility is... overlooking a large pond with geese. The staff, both medical and facility staff were so very friendly.

My 87 yo mother had a phlebotomy today for a condition that she needs monthly because of cancer. She is a very hard stick so I understand bruising. However, once she had her IV in her arm, staff decided to move the machine attached to IV, the IV came out of her arm very suddenly and painfully. Really disappointed because I wouldn’t think they would make mistakes like these. They didn’t treat her very nicely or show concern so I will be looking into other solutions for her.

Absolutely worthless. Almost every department I’ve dealt with. Could have killed my son due to neglect, well because their nursing staff was “having lunch” instead of paying attention to him. During our stay they left the room filthy. Nurses were literally throwing trash and used Medical supplies ON THE FLOOR instead of changing the overflowing trash in the In-patient peds area, right in front of us. So unsanitary. I was running 10 minutes late for an appointment because I was caught up at my sons school and when I get there they tell me I can’t be seen because all the doctors in that office have a “meeting” at noon on a Monday. Sadly I’m not a doctor but the jobs I’ve worked, when we’ve had “meetings” it’s always before or after business hours because customers/patients are always first. I guess great river didn’t get the memo. While I was being told I couldn’t be seen after calling ahead to say I’d be late and they gave me the ok then the story changed when I got there, the receprionist OUT LOUD in front of a waiting room of people asked “well, are you having an actual issue?” Whether I was or wasn’t shouldn’t decide if you can see me right then or not and how rude and disrespectful to expect me to put my personal business out there in front of a waiting room full of people. Majority of the doctors are selfish, rude, and entitled. If the doctors aren’t that way, their receptionists certainly portray them as such. The list of reasons and details I could go into about how horrible this facility is is unreal. It’s too bad I have to even give them one star. This is definitely a 0 star facility.

I was just in the er Saturday night. Mainly due to sore throat and fever. One of the nurses wanted me to follow her to the bathroom for the obvious reason. I have a cast on my leg..I thought it was pretty clear I would need some assistance. It was not clear. I asked for a wheelchair and her reply was, "what, can't you walk on it?" I was so taken aback by her stupidity that I failed to get her name.. the one person who didn't make me feel like poor human scum wasting their precious time was Alyssa. Thank you Alyssa for the warm blanket and ice water. I hope you don't catch my strep throat..as for the dark haired nurse..I hope you do.

Whom ever I spoke to on the phone today they where rude.

My husband saw Dr Dandan on our first visit he was admitted. Small cell cancer in his lung and bone marrow.All the doctors really cared and did their best but the cancer was too agressive.i brought him home with Hospice out of Burlington. Such loving doctors and staff! My husband died 6 days later. If this mass had been checked by Dr Libranes of Fort Madison 2 years ago when found He might still be here!

The nurse in the ER are so rude to me in my husband he wants to go to Iowa City and he do not want to be in this Hospital. And I think all should talk to all the nurse and tell them not to be rude to patient and then they send my husband 300 now so I cannot come see him so I am taking my self out all of there doctor and they will not see me or my kids

Get the pleasure of having your wife in for a screening that could come with very bad news, while you get to be clear out of the wing, in the common waiting area, so while holding her hostage an hour, just let her sit and fret with not one person for any sort of emotional support. Awesome place, Hitler apparently runs a hospital nowdays!

problem is but they are rude, lazy or understaffed I don't know which one. The ICU is the worst. Since when should a patient in ICU have to wait an entire afternoon for pain relief because their nurse is too busy with their other patients and behind? That's not an ICU.

Nursing staff in the ER is amazing! I have been there 3 times this month I know! Lol However my first visit was for my daughter who broke her finger. Dr said it was not broken buy got a call the next day from radiology that said it was broken. Not a huge deal I guess since it was just a finger and treatment for broken or sprained finger is the same. However a few weeks later I go in for severe pain in my chest and was dismissed as having indigestion and to follow up with regular dr. So I did. He sent me BACK to the ER because he had no way to test for anything further because he is just family practice. So after another trip to the ER. Second round of EKGs second round of blood tests throw in a cat scan because they are looking for a possible blood clot and then they find I have a fractured rib. Really???? No complaints against any other departments but the ER Dr's seem to need some refresher courses.

Do not use Carlose Falcon, he is too lazy to figure out what's wrong and will take a wild guess. My experience: Went to the ER and was brought back immediately. I never filled any papers. The nurse tells me to get undressed into a hospital gown, as I start undressing, the doctor walks in on me! I didn't even have one minute to get dressed before he just came walking in without knocking. He doesn't apologize, instead, he stand outside the curtain asking me questions, IN THE HALLWAY! Very loudly saying "when did your back pain start" I thought that was VERY unprofessional and rude. He comes in asking vague questions. I've had upper back pain for 2 months now, with numbness and tingling starting in the past 2-3 days. I'm only 21, I've never had back pain except when I was pregnant. He turns me around and presses on my back. Asking not once but twice that I did in fact drive myself there. I tried explaining I have 2 kids and my husband had work the next day, so I decided instead of dealing with my rambunctious 2.5 year old and baby, I'll leave them to sleep. I can concentrate and explain better without worrying about kids. He also asked me "so this has been going on for 2 months and you haven't seen your primary Doctor once?" I felt he was saying that as in I was lying. I get it, back pain is the biggest thing "drug seekers" use in the ER, but I'm also from Texas. Far away from my primary dr. I usually just deal with pain if its not excruciating. I started getting concerned at the fact that it's been this long and hasn't gone away, it's gotten worst, & more symptoms have come up. Yes I was in pain, but I wanted answers. Not medication. Im too young to have these problems without a source. I really felt profiled. Yes I didn't look my best, it was late and I really didn't care since I was hurting worst than usual & tired all day. I also tell him about hand numbess, he cut me off to say, if it was from my back, where I'm saying the pain is, the pain would be lower. I didn't realize I would be made to feel stupid for giving the doctor my symptoms. He was in the room for a few minutes. He didn't ask if I'm on any medications, or about any other symptoms. I felt very Intimidated, like he could care less about me. As he's walking out, he says we will give me a prescription for the pain and a pain shot. (The X-Ray tech was such a great person and very very nice.) They didn't tell me what they were giving me. It could of reacted with something I had taken that day. She just said it should take away the pain. It did not, but I was not about to tell them. I was already obviously seen as coming in with "fake" pain. I couldn't wait to go home. The NURSE came in to tell me what he diagnosed me with, which was a back sprain. I didn't see the actual Doctor after the couple of minutes in the room, when first arriving. He was too lazy to come tell me hisself, that showed me he had no compassion. I asked her what are the symptoms, she says "everything you have" ... Wow I also told her that I have been take 800 mg ibuprofen. My father in law is a vet, we get them if we need them. I told her it doesn't even take the pain away, I told her I have tried several things. Guess what they give me a prescription for? Yep, 800mg ibuprofen. Which would be fine if that worked, but it doesn't. I wanted to know what was wrong, I didn't even get that. There's no way it was a sprain. I'm not bruised at all, I can move any way, bend over, it doesn't affect it, of course he wouldn't know that since he didn't know anything besides, I drove myself and hadn't been to the doctor for it. He flat out, DID NOT TRY. I was hurt and offended. I got home and cried. I was treated so rudely and like I had no value. Before assuming something, give the person a chance. I will be paying a lot of money for being treated like sh**, basically. I have NEVER been treated that way. I wish there was a way to prove pain... Maybe then, they would of believed me. Idk if I could of done anything different to change their minds. I was labeled as soon as I walked through the doors.

BEWARE. Lazy nursing staff killed my grandma. Such a great place for smokers to work since they can smoke on hospital property. This is the biggest smokers haven in Des Moines County.

After nearly six months of in-patient physical therapy, K was released with a broken back. GRMC knew my spinal cord was broken but never told me. Now I am paralyzed for life. You will never find a ALL-FOR-PROFIT hospital that has such a low concern for the welfare of their patients.
