They do not care about anything other than trying to get their cash, they use people like guinea pigs to try and see what all meds work and dont work, such as when they find one that works they change it to see if something else works, if you have prescription meds going in there they will not give them to you especially if it is for anxiety, they will go out of their way to try and start drama if you leave before they get their 30 days from the insurance company, they do nothing about drama or people trying to start fights except tell you that if you say anything back they will revoke your phone privileges, honestly it\'s not a very good facility, the supervisors will not return spousal phone calls or do anything until it comes down the patient leaving then they care but outside of that, the place is garbage

Gateway in Springfield changed my life!! All of the staff are amazing!! You get out what you put into your rehabilitation!! Gateway gave me the tools to change every single aspect of my life, not just my addiction!! And there isn\'t 12 year old kids cooking the food!! They might be serving the food and doing the dishes 1 day a week!! And it\'s good for them to do that because it teaches them responsiblity!

This is the absolutely best rehab in illinois. Ive been to 4 since i was 18 and this is the most helpful in all there department\'s... All the staff is great and really want to help you with your problems.. The food is great and the rec time is on point as well. I would recommend this for any addict want to make a change and better them selfs..

Gateway in Springfield is the best facility I have ever been to. From staff to the ones that do your addmisson over the phone they are the most understanding and respectful people and will do whatever they can to help you. I was taking back by the staff that work there from the man that greets you, how polite he was to the nurses that will do what they can to help. And this all starts with they head people in charge. I can honstley say that if it wasn\'t for the people at gateway from the bottom to the top I would not be where I am today. They have very many resources resources after you complete the program I would highly suggest Gateway to any one that might be struggling with any type if substance abuse.

Would not recommend this rehab to anyone. If your just trying to get direct, honest, help with getting clean, I would recommend a different rehab. Going to this place was a real headache and the only thing they seem to care about is trying to keep you there as long as they can. I was 24 when I went there, and had a kid, job and dog to take care of at home. I told them from the get go that my stay would be unique and that I would only need to be there for a few weeks.. After all I made the decision that if I did go through with this, that I would do it for a 3 week period.. I felt this was a sufficient amount of time for ME, personally to get clean. I know that every case is different but I could not afford to stay any longer, both financially and emotionally. I needed enough time to get clean and on my feet while still being able to get back to my job and kid in a relatively timely manner. I was looking forward to getting throught the sickness and getting the help I need so that 3 weeks later I would have the tools to stay clean the rest of the way. The first week or two was alright, but about halfway through my stay I realized that their own agenda didn\'t seem to reflect my bests interests. They indicated to me that THEY thought I needed more time \"to get clean\" Even though I was already meeting all the requirements and was doing well. I explained to them that I understood their concern but that my plan was to get the 3 weeks of initial help, then take the wheel from there, so to speak. I explained that I would need help making new appointments so that when I returned home everything would already be scheduled so I could continue my recovery and medications smoothly. It was part of their policy to ensure that you had a doctors appointment lined up for when you returned home. However they told me that because they wanted me to stay longer, that they would not be helping me make new appointments. I told them that I couldn\'t afford to pay for more treatment and that I needed to start preparing for my return home. After all I did have a kid, job, and dog to tend to, which thankfully my parents were taking care of at this time. Gateway then proceeded to call my insurance company to try to convince them to pay for a longer stay. I then had to convince an employee to let me use a phone so that I could contact the insurance company in attempt to tell them to terminate the payment. See my insurance pays for a lifetime of 50 days of rehab so I wanted to save the other potential 29 days if there was every a situation in the future where I would have to go back to rehab. Gateway refused to hear any of these concerns of mine, and basically told me the only way they would help and give me a successful discharge is if I stayed there longer. I don\'t like giving up easily, so I was determined to stay until I got my successful discharge. Luckily my phone call got through to the right person and after 23 days, the insurance company finally stopped paying for my stay. It was at this point of course that Gateway decided to successfully discharge me. See they can\'t kick you out for not being able to pay for treatment and they weren\'t going to let me stay for free so they had no choice but to finally let me go. Unfortunately because they refused to schedule my appointments until the last minute, I had some hiccups with getting my meds upon returning home. Fortunately I was able to smooth out the problems and after some trials and tribulations I am finally at a point were I consider my self sober and functional. I am currently a medical cannabis patient and I don\'t use any other hard drugs. This is something the people at Gateway told me I would never be able to achieve. They always told me its impossible for an addict to stay clean from hard drugs, while using cannabis, but after 2 successful years I have proven them wrong. Its unfortunate, but I believe Gateway is driven more by money than the desire to actually help people get clean, because if they really cared about my sobriety they would have listened and worked with me, not against me..

Not what I was led to believe, they say a holistic approach, but it is hard to get to the weight room or outside at all ( you have to fill out a request form), and then told we are understaffed today. They change rules at will, a lot of verbal dehumanizing, 80% of the staff are great but the others are power hungry and treat their clients like little kids. $775.00 a day , if you have insurance you can get in right away. Many clients are stuck there because they need the Certificate of Completion for their employers, so they are at the mercy of the counselors and staff, usually strung along for 30 - 40 days. I was about two weeks, some days a dozen people would bail. I would recommend a Detox Center, you will be out in 4-5 days, ready to start living sober. It is a 501-3c tax exempt corporation, and definitely all about MONEY!

My experience with Gateway was unbelievable. The people who work here are absolutely unprofessional, and should not be working in this environment. They do not treat you as an inpatient more like an inmate. The rooms are very unsanitary I had to share with 3 other roommates in a bedroom that had clearly not been cleaned in years! There was petrified feces all over the walls in the bathrooms and when I complained about it they told me I had to clean it, and they would not provide me with gloves. The tiny room that they call a gym had equipment that was rusted, filthy, half the devices didn’t work, the windows were screwed shut so you couldn’t get fresh air, and all the seats were torn. I was givin the opportunity to work in The kitchen without pay, but I would be given an additional 15 minutes on the phone which meant a lot to me because I was only able to make 1 phone call every 3-4 days on a cordless phone that you had to stand in one spot to hear on because the antenna was broken, additionally the battery would die in roughly 10 minutes. Anyways never once did I get the chance to make my extra 15 minute call because the staff said I had to make the call in my counselors office which is another story. While working in the kitchen my job was to clean dishes, while working one Sunday I got to see the chef drop a block of cheese on the floor then pick it back up and serve it to the men on my unit. We were fed fries that were so hard I chipped my tooth and had to have it repaired when I got back to Iowa, because I was denied dental service, because there were not enough staff to take me to the dentist. I have very strong teeth and good insurance that I can use at any dental office I want, but I had to suffer with an exposed nerve a large duration of my stay. The kicker to my experience was that the staff had us sharing a pair of finger nail clippers amongst the unit, more than half the men on my unit were Hepatitis C+. The fingernail clippers we shared were only cleaned by Alcohol wipes in between uses, which later I found out is not enough to kill this disease. As soon as I mentioned “OSHA” the handbook changed and you are now allowed to bring your own fingernail trimmers. I was assigned to Shannon Bradley as my counselor of which whom I got to talk about my addiction with 3 times in my 24 day stay. Shannon would make me repeat everything I said over and over again as if she may suffer from short term memory loss, or maybe she didn’t pay attention to a single word out of my mouth. She thought that I was a homeless father, with a child to another “man.” This women thought I was gay and have a child!!! First off I am a STRAIGHT homeowner, I have custody of my child, I have a good job, and live a normal life. I chose to go to Gateway because I got an OWI in Iowa that required me to seek treatment. After sharing this story with her 3 times! She still put inaccurate information on my discharge paperwork. Now that I have left the nightmare is not over, I was given her business card to get in touch with Shannon when I leave. I have spent the last 3 weeks trying to get a call back after numerous voicemails have been left on her phone, I have faxed my FMLA paperwork 2 times, and tried emailing her address that’s on the card but get an email bounce back that it is not a valid email. No one there will help me, no one will call me back, and I get to lose my job, because after the thousands of dollars myself and my insurance has paid this facility apparently they are done with me. The financial counselor blatantly lied to me about the pricing, I was charged for medications I never took, and was treated terribly by the staff, we were ignored during our groups while staff were on their cellphones, and got to listen to them talk horribly about us when they thought we were in bed and could not hear them. I hope that no one has to go through this experience, and reads this post before deciding to send their loved ones here.

First let me start by saying I\'ve never been to a rehabilitation facility before. I have nothing to measure this facility against. However I do feel that treatment should be individualized to each person. A one-size-fits-all program can be detrimental to your rehabilitation. I am a 33-year-old woman and I suffer from alcohol and prescribed Xanax abuse. I have never sought out Xanax illegall. I\'ve only taken what has been prescribed to me by my doctors after a heartbreaking miscarriage and 2012. As a result of my miscarriage I lost my fertility. I never properly greved this loss and I thought I could find the help I needed at Gateway. Unfortunately the program at Gateway is not designed to help people with their individual needs. I was just a number. If you have insurance the chance of your stay being much longer then needed is very high. I have great insurance and I never thought that would be to my detriment in any situation. I was told I may be there for two weeks. I didn\'t have to wait for a bed because they ran my insurance when I called. Later I found out from other patients that because I had wonderful insurance I was going to be there for a very long time. I believe this to be true because other patients had waited weeks, sometimes months for a bed in this facility. I called in the middle of the afternoon and received a bed that day based on my insurance. This facility is nothing more than a Ponzi scheme. They are in the business of making money not helping patients. I felt belittled, demoralized, and hopeless. When I say I felt belittled I had to stand in line everywhere I went like a kindergartner , I could not speak, I was not allowed to go outside and the list goes on. This facility is advertises as the best treatment facility in the state of Illinois to help with problems of addiction and mental health. I\'m sorry to say that is not so. I understand that people need help to battle there addictions. I am one of them. I wish that rehabilitation facilities weren\'t like this particular facility. They are there to make money. They do not have your best interest at heart in my opinion. I was traumatized by my experience there and I still have nightmares. I don\'t want anyone else to experience what I experienced so I hope this has been helpful. With that being said I do not want to discourage anyone from getting treatment. Please do your research because there are many facilities in the state of Illinois and other states surrounding that are so much better than Gateway.

This place is the best around that takes med card...and those who want something negative will find it as those looking for help will find it too. Anyone who\'s complaining obviously hasn\'t been around too much to know most places don\'t care about clients to much this place made me feel like a person again who\'s got potential for first time in years . I\'ve been round Illinois to rehabs never stayed once till gateway they do there best to us feel hope ,part of something good instead of the worst I\'ve been round far to long. I\'ve never had anything bad to say about this place this last time I was there 25days n left early three days early from completion.id relayed my issue since arrival yet as I was preparing to leave counselor in short told me he\'d taken care of it never did ...spoke three times never helped me w anything so I decided to go n regret it but this stay for few weeks verses for three months was vastly different I gained the most from c1as for counselor I\'d aquired dissatisfied n a politically correct way . Two years ago I\'d never said anything negative cause it is after all what you make of it as most things in life but environment wise n staff awesome but as most n life will always have some set backs I just wish it hadn\'t been at a time when I was trying to get it right not leave but no matter what I said to him it wasn\'t done consequencially I went to jail had to bond four thousand dollars for something he\'d supposedly taken care of the first week I was there . Those seeking help \"really\" seeking help this is the place that allows you to get it n treated me as a person should be which by the way hasn\'t happened to often in these types of facilities so if this place wasn\'t for some I highly recommend it for those who honestly want help changing their life .things changed from two years ago and honestly I liked it better last time but I had awesome counselor opposed to this time when I couldn\'t get help w major issues even when asked for help as for the attention seekers they got theirs mine n someone else\'s time but as whole still awesome place just few incompetent people ...n overworked staff who come just to help so all these complainers need to get real we are addicts n probably been far worse n expect people to cater for you doing the right thing for a minute come on .

F-ing AWFUL. You only get meds if you play their 28 day game. They will leave you craving w/o meds until you sign for their $30,000 month-long program. Instead, I went to Sunspire in Gillman Illinois, and they sobered me up on a 5 day detox, for $5000. They had good food too, and I got medication and relief within hours of check-in.
