A person who truly wants to get help will benefit from this positive program... My sister was here a bit ago. The grounds are beautiful and we always had nice visits. Of course no place is perfect. That said a lot of problems were caused by people in treatment. Its facility is older. But its still nice. The counselors seemed very genuine and my sister did say she liked them. The day she got out she was so positive. She had a notebook filled with positive solutions to problems, ECT. She was telling me how much she learned and was smiling ear to ear.. She had gone there because she was court ordered. Although it had a positive influence she had not made that choice to go. Unless someone is REALLY TRULY ready to get help a rehab program is of no use. An addict has to want to go for themselves they can not go because it is court ordered, to please a spouse or significant other, to appease a parent or child. Those things can influence a decision to change, you can want to change for them but not because of them. If you do not decide previous to treatment that you want sobriety the best center in the world will not help. My sister went back to using the next day and overdosed :( She was saved by paramedics but ultimately started the cycle again and is in prison now. My husband wants to try it here. I hope that he truly wants it in his heart. He made the choice, I never even suggested it. I lovingly spoke with him about our family and a life we could have. I believe it will be beneficial because of what I have seen and learned this is a good place... So in short you can not blame a facility for your own problems.

This is the worst place ever. My son went there last week and hhi room wasntw ready there was no blinds on the windows and they didn't give him his belongings for the first 48 hours. So he couldn't brush his teeth, shower or change his clothes for the first 2 days because it took the facility that long to go through his stuff. The staff is rude and don't seem to care about their patients or families at all. They also had me drop off more cigs and candy and googled water at the front desk and they neglected to give my son any of that stuff. We live about 3 hours away from the facility and they are refusing to send my money back or my some belongings that I paid for. It took 8 days to even get ahold of them. The nurses are the only ones they seemed to care about the patients. This place is the worst place ever.

Ever since I was here a few months ago, I have been on a better life path. They teach you so much about coping and life skills, plus the reason you think the way you do. No judgment at all towards anyone and they are all really engaged with the people they help. I would recommend anyone to this place. They cares so much about everyone and how they can do whatever it took to help change your life.

31 days there for treatment and I"m confident in my recovery thanks to first, my counselor Nancy who was amazing working with me and my family, second Ken (staff on duty) for replacing bad habits with positive structure, third Benny & Trish for being there when needed, fourth Ryan and Kassie along with Nancy for leading amazing groups and last but not least Barb for doing a killer job with insurance. Another awesome part of this location is the recreational therapy (weights, volleyball, basketball, etc,) daily to build positive addictions. Moving forward success at Gateway-Lake Villa and recovery after is determined by what I put into it. If you go to Gateway listen, take part and stay until treatment is complete (28 days).

As a former patient of Gateway Inpatient Treatment, I would like to share a bit of my experience, strength and hope to hopefully help another addict have faith that Recovery is possible and worth it. I checked myself in voluntarily to Gateway on February 12, 2018 beat down, broken, scared to death, humiliated and at my rock bottom. I knew that "living" the way I was that I would either end up hospitalized, in jail or dead. Treatment was my last option and I can testify that Gateway helped save my life! This was my first time in treatment and away from my children which I truly struggled with but the counselors continued to ensure me that when I completed and kept on the right path, that my children would finally have their mother in a healthy place mentally, spiritually and physically. They were absolutely right and they loved me until I began to learn how to love myself. I went in to treatment admitting I was powerless of drugs and alcohol but that doesn't have to be the case for everyone to be successful. I have learned that every addict is different and we all have our own recovery which we work at a pace that keeps us clean and sober individually. After 38 days in treatment, I completed the inpatient program and began my new life in the outside world. I did start receiving Vivitrol shots which helped with my cravings for 6 months into my recovery which I highly suggest for alcoholics and opiate addicts. I also immediately began Outpatient treatment with Gateway and was able to complete that program as well. Outpatient treatment helped me to slowly adjust to the triggers and reality that just because I am clean and sober doesn't mean that life stops. It taught me how to handle real life situations without having to use drugs and alcohol. It also helped me rebuild a new circle of people who were just like me since I had to change people, places and things in order to remain on my new path. I would suggest inpatient and outpatient treatment to any addict/alcoholic who is suffering because it truly helped my save my life, purge the fears I held so deep inside me that kept me sick, learn how to handle situations differently, be a better mother, daughter and friend and have faith in a power greater than myself. Thank you Gateway for loving me until I learned how to love myself. You helped me start living life on life's terms which has allowed me to recently receive my 6 month coin!!

This place is a waste of time and money. A year after my son was here - they sent me a bill for $1000 for his first 4 days. They did something wrong on the intake on the first day and our insurance wouldn't cover it. Connie then forwarded the bill to me - one year later. Then they sent it to collection to ruin my son's credit. My son was here for a month and didn't learn a thing. Last year he went to Rosecrans in Rockford - he is 6 months clean and sober today.

My brother went voluntarily into the way out program. I met with his counselor who is very processional and cared about healing our family ties. My brother has been in many treatment facilities before but he commented that this is "real treatment." They only share a room with one other person, have their own bathroom, and attend classes all day long keeping the day full. They offer family counseling as well. You can also come ams check yourself in if you need help right then and there. Thank you Gateway for giving my brother a much better experience.

My son currently is in your facility. His father put him there because of a court order. Finally after finding out where he is I am able to read some of the reviews. Personally I always research for things like this but it was not in my hands. I visited the facility yesterday it seems nice and the staff was professional. My fiance was a patient here and was put on some form of behavioral discipline. When the process of what would happen if he were to get removed from the facility, it was explained that they would first contact me to find when i was available to come and get him, and would only be notified and told to leave when i got there. Mind you we live five and a half hours away. I got the call today that they were making him leave, and not when i got there but as soon as they called me. Mind you we live five and a half hours away, he has no money on him, as he could not bring any. No id, no phone, nothing only a copy of his id. They didn't even wait for me to call them back about his possible train ticket. Which if they would've waited they would know that he cannot get on a train without his id. So he is going to be stuck in Chicago with no phone no money nothing. They put him on a metra bus not knowing if he had a way home. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, they are unprofessional and obviously do not care about they people that they "care" for.

I was in Gateway Lake Villa from 4/25/2011 to 7/1/2011 to get off of Heroin and Pills and I honestly believe that this program saved my life the staff (though very busy with 45 plus male clients) responded very quickly to my needs and concerns as far as after care arrangements and finding a sober living house for me because I was homeless at the time. As far as Counselors/Staff being ex-gang members I think what people do in there past is irrelevant and who else better for a drug addict and alcoholic to relate to then other recovering addicts and alcoholics. I think people need to be grateful that places like this are around because they might not always be so easily available. So if u are serious and want to get better then yes Gateway is a great place to to achieve this..

As a scared parent, this facility was recommended to us. We were told it was a good facility. The courts had also our son to go. The staff was extremely unprofessional. I'm not even sure where to begin. It appears that the staff has absolutely no autonomy to make decisions but have to contact the director, Chris. Chris seems to have a lack of any type of empathy within him. I am in the medical field and I would never treat my clients or their families in the manner that this man treated me. I suppose that my definition of a professional is somewhat different than a gentleman that has hair longer than mine in a ponytail - but I don't judge. i was concerned that my son received quality care. I understand that there are rules in place for a reason, however, it seems that within this facility the treatments are not fair across the board. I definitely agree that the staff is abusive with their power. While I thought my concerns that were voiced and written down were being taken seriously, I came to find out that I "misunderstood" and that they were being investigated. I blame mysel for not doing more research on the facility and the staff. I should have read the reviews. From what we experienced THEY WERE DEAD ON. DO NOT SEND ANYONE YOU CARE ABOUT HERE. ITS A SHAME THAT MY SON WHO IS STRUGGLING AS IT IS, CAME TO A FACILITY THAT DIDN'T BELIEVE IN HIM AT ALL. GROSS NEGLIGENCE COMES TO MIND FOR THIS FACILITY.

Place was terrible went through it 2 times completed first time second time I was kicked out note I was court ordered both time staff was very rude and not helpful at all place was a joke watched movies and stupid groups that do not help also I was blamed for a lot of things that went on with the people they checked the cameras found out it was not me and still put it in my court report stuff that clearly was not me giving it 2 stars because food was good. Place is not worth your time people go anywhere else

Gateway was a negative experience for me. What intake said on the phone did not match Gateways rules when you arrive. I was told I could bring laundry detergent that that was not the case. I was told I could you the telephone daily not true Patients can only call home twice a week however its the same day 1 am call 1 pm call. when you arrive they wash all your clothes in HOT water. Needless to say ever thing shrunk and faded. Lets talk about group. There are people that take it serious and those who don't. There is no corrective action taken. There is so much side talk that often that we would lose the topic and learn nothing. Patients continue talk about themselves and what they have in life and brag about a host of other things I don't understand why certain patient's are not kicked out of the program. Now that's go over Hawks and Eagles. These are patients that decide the want to become leaders and tell other patients whats expected of them. If that's all they did that we be great. The staff complains to them about issues with the house they take attendance in all groups sometimes missing group, they basically do the work in my opinion that staff should be doing. You must bring your own water in. There is only well water and no filters on the water fountains needless to say the water is horrible. the beds are terrible along with the pillows. This is a small list of the negatives. Now some positives. Certain staff are great such as Carolyn Nancy Janet. The food is decent. No caffeine is allowed at gateway. I did come out with some education. Gateway basically keeps you sober while your in treatment that's it. While there are more positive's and negatives I hope this will give you some insight to Gateway. I was just released today and spent 23 days there, for the cost of gateway you can go to a much better facility with more education. If you need for your addiction I sincerely hope you find somewhere to go......

Had an awesome experience at Lake Villa. Met the most wonderful people there. Staff are very knowledgeable on addiction and they may seem harsh and strict but that is exactly what an addict needs is a routine and rules that need to be followed to retrain our addict brains. The counselors are so helpful and professional and the campus itself is absolutely GORGEOUS. (Not to mention it is one of the only rehab faculties that still allows cigarettes on campus, which is a huge plus when youre going through the stress of withdrawl and recovery.) Would absolutely recommend Gateway Lake Villa to anyone who is serious about changing their life, the program makes you face issues youve never had to face before while being sober and gives you the strength to accept your life as it is and the power to move forward making good decisions. Gateway was my last stop before drugs killed me; Im so proud to say with the help of the Gateway community I am now 90 days sober (& counting), and now a happy & productive member of my community. Thank you Lake Villa Adult Womens Program for saving my life. ? Also a heads up if you will be attending lake villa; yoga pants/leggings/tight/ripped pants will not be allowed. Pack only essentials because there are a lot of beauty products (hairspray, shampoo with alcohol in it, mirrors etc.) you wont be allowed to have as a safety precaution. The washers and dryers are extremely heavy duty and most of your clothes will be shrunken and scratchy by the time theyre done washing them all (required before you can have your clothes back) so dont bring any favorite items of clothing. Youre only allowed to bring 7 days worth of outfits in with you so packing light saves a lot of time for the searching staff. Make sure to bring a case of water or clear reusable bottle or else youll go insane being thristy as hell all day. Bring lots of envelops and stamps because sending mail will be the only way you can regularly talk to others on the outside (especially significant others). I apologize for the review being quite lengthy but the sheet they give you of what you can/should bring is outdated and incorrect so after making the mistake of bringing all the wrong things, I want others to know what to expect. First of all The GYC is meant to be harder than other rehabilitation center's as the majority of the male only kids there are gang affiliated and have proved they are trouble makers. I was personally as a patient in the Women's Program and I saw first hand the way these young boys would act and the names they would call some of the women and they way they would hurl degrading language toward us and the staff.... Gateway is meant to be a very structured and strict program not some do what you want program like Rosecrance is. Sure if you have no real desire to stop doing drugs or drinking then by all means do not go to Gateway... The staff there is absolutely amazing and all the ones I had interaction with which was several of them genuinely cared for me and the things I had gone through. Chris the guy with the pony tail is absolutely amazing and can really relate to people on such a great level. There are very few staff members that I do not know and I still stay in contact with my counselor to let her know how well I am doing and will continue to do thanks to them. At Gateway I was able to get real about things and be honest and not get judged. I was able to finally start to let go of my past and put it where it belongs. Were it not for my counselor and for my therapist I would not still be sober today.

THIS IS A WARNING! DO NOT SKIP PAST THIS REVIEW! GATEWAY TO HELL! The staff is intoxicated with power, and severely abuse it. I watched clients get assaulted and gang beat on several occasions. People were afraid to report such things, because the staff is so unprofessional (it could backfire on you). Several staff are former gang members themselves. They give other clients with the same gang affiliations special treatment, and let them get away with all kinds of terrible things. I hope Gateway will soon be held accountable for fraud and not providing security for clients. They keep people as long as they possibly can just to make as much money as possible. Clients with HEROIN addiction are held as long or released sooner than those that have marijuana issues.(ARE YOU KIDDING ME?) Any of these positive reviews are by people that work there, or have an agenda. I posted this review, because I was scarred for life by my experience. Please do not send anyone you love here, and if you love yourself, STAY AWAY. I just don't want this place to thrive by putting people though misery! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
