I'm only giving 1 star because it doesn't let you put 0. I stayed here for 6 days in the adolescant ward and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the worst experience of my life. The hospital did nothing to help me. No medicine change, I only saw a doctor once my entire stay. They didn't even keep me safe. I told a nurse I was going to self harm, but she was busy and left me alone. I was able to self harm, so someone was with me, but they left me (again) and I was able to do it for the third time during that stay. The weekday staff was alright, but the weekend staff was awful. They showed no respect towards us. Awful rumors were spread around about me and it took me hurting myself for them to do something about it. If you're thinking about putting your child here, rethink your choices. The only good part about it was the people I met, but we're not allowed to talk after the hospitalization (I understand why, though). I hope a pyromaniac sneaks matches in and burns the place down.

As a teenager who just turned 17 as of March 15th (I entered this facility on March 6th and was discharged March 12th), I can gladly say that my time here wasn't as awful as I had made it out to be and instead am thankful for the experience I had here. I've always dreaded the threat of being hospitalized, so I denied to be entered into any type of facility with hopes that therapy and anti-depressants would make do; I was very wrong. First off, I'd like to address staff. Two staff members told us we weren't really depressed/suicidal because of some laughter amongst our peers and also told us that our stories weren't "emotional enough". These two staff members continued to argue everything that anyone said and showed extreme impatience and annoyance when simply asked a question. It made me feel like a 4 year old and I had a breakdown on my FIRST DAY. One of the two staff members also told me I couldn't have bug spray because I, and I quote, "just wanted it because I could have it." Thankfully, the issue was resolved by a kind nurse and I was promptly given bug spray. The night staff, the nurses, the counter staff, and one set of day staff members were all amazing and treated us like actual people instead of nuisances. Kudos to whoever hired such an amazing, memorable set of staff. Obviously, I do suffer a different experience than what most entered the hospital for. I have been self-harm clean for almost two years now, but I still struggle often from depression and suicidal thoughts. Also, I experience hallucinations and false delusions. During my stay, I was put on a new medication and given a proper diagnosis that my therapist wouldn't give me. Needless to say, I'm glad I could get the help that I needed. I have been struggling at home with both of my parents (my mother and I with general issues; my father at the time had problems with his diabetes and it put stress on my family.) and to top it off, I've been having the worst time in school and was absolutely miserable. I had voices in my head telling me to swallow pills and I would often dissassociate and feel as if my limbs were not mine. Scary, right? I thought so too. I was also carrying baggage from my childhood trauma and felt like everything was falling apart, so I finally said "yes" and decided to voluntarily check myself in. Now, a few days since my discharge, I have switched into a much easier school program and am able to work more independently and freely. My medication helped for a bit, but I'm going to see to it that I switch due to health side-effect problems. I feel less depressed and better knowing that I have a folder with important papers that I kept during my stay to remind me of coping skills and emotional management. I feel more confident as a person and with my identity. Saint Simons By-The-Sea really did change my life, even in 6 days. For that, I am forever grateful. P.S. I love the food. These factors are what they should improve on: - More organized and on track. Everyone was confused and ignorant about even their own fellow colleagues. Times were way out of whack and I visited with my dad for less than 5 minutes because I wasn't taken to the cafeteria on time. - Better set of staff. I just.. really dislike Ms. Jamacia and Coach. I wasn't going to say names, but Ms. Jamacia if you're going to berate everyone that enters and expresses their issues that you don't like, then why are you working in that field. Let the kids talk and stop trying to turn their problems on themselves. And Coach, we are not going to bend over backwards and give you a drama performance on why our life sucks. I cried during my sharing, I hope that was emotional enough for you. - Better activities. The activities provided were great in concept, but were acted out poorly. Coloring and sketching can't be everyone's form of coping. I'm disappointed that in six days, all we did was watch boring documentaries or color half of the time. It was mainly constant berating in group by Coach or Ms. Jamacia. Heck, even both.

I came here by mistake, but even if I did need the "treatment" they claim they give so greatly I would have left the same if not worse. They need more individual based therapy, one on one options, and way more activities. All they have is group based therapy and it lacks nothing of being called a joke; it wasn't helpful in the slightest and they need to realize group therapy isn't for everyone. The 3 days I spent here I was bored out of my mind because there isn't ANYTHING to do other than the coloring sheets they provide and watching TV. I also spent the first two days in dirty clothes because nobody gave anything to me to change into and I asked SEVEN times for a change of clothes. I also think it's incredibly silly that we couldn't have hard cover books because they could "be used as a weapon", but they have the remotes for the TV's ziptied to a hard piece of wood. I only had a bad time with two staff members. Alexxis, a larger, black woman who did my initial assessment was AWFUL. She was so rude, condescending, and just flat out hateful. People who truly need these services don't deserve to be treated the way she treated me. The other staff member was a nurse named, Bobbie; she was basically the same as Alexxis: rude, quick with the smart mouth, and seemed like she hated the world. Their attitudes are very unbecoming of staff at a mental hospital who's job is supposed to be providing help and care. Other than those two, the staff was really very nice and sweet; Sydney(female), Alex(male), Blake(male), Daniel(I think? male) and a larger, white woman with dark hair(I forgot her name) were all phenomenal! Those friendly staff is really the only positive feedback I can say about my time here. When it finally came time for me to discharge, the person who picked me up waited THREE hours because nobody alerted the unit I was in that my ride was there. Ultimately this place is useless and they don't have enough resources to provide adequate treatment to those who really need it; they just shove medication down people's throats and call it day and extinguish some insurance money before they discharge you. Don't waste your time or money by going here or thinking about sending a loved one; you, nor them, will get the kind of help you're seeking.

They feed you well! Smoke breaks are 6 times a day! I stayed 7 days for my mental health issues my insurance covered it. The flaws I would have is that it takes a long time to see the doctors, they do way too many groups- yoga is dumb, only three people at tented, the yoga lady was very nice but it just isn't anything to do with getting well. They are against opioids- with that said they will let you have the pain meds that you are prescribed too, but on my sheet when I left even though I was there for mental health reasons they put drug addiction problems just because I'm on a pain reliever-- for health reasons! I that made me very mad! & some of the nurses said very rude & ugly things to me about my pain meds when I would take them at the window- not all nurses some are great but I did run into that problem. They are organized very well!!! It was an all around good experience, except for what I explained above

Worst place ever. They don’t call and update you on your child. You have to call them every time. They don’t work much with your child to help them either. They don’t work with insurance good bc they want your money and not the insurance money. I DONT recommend this place to anyone. STAY AWAY from here. I only gave 1 star bc they don’t let you give 0 stars.

Terrible. Trying to get any information on your child while they are there will be impossible! Every time we call, if they answer, they become more and more incompetent and it makes me question the care of my my child. I have not once had a conversation with a therapist that knew what was going on. If given the choice, stay away and don't let the name fool you.

Horrible. I was forcefully admitted to this "hospital" and told them I couldn't go because I couldn't afford it. They sent me anyway (of course) and while I was there my psychiatrist was dr.Ohiku she is so rude I told her why I have PTSD and she said "Why would you have PTDD from that? It's not like he raped you. All he did was touch you" she lacks empathy and I hope she's fired because she shouldn't be dealing with people with mental illnesses. Secondly I submitted a financial aid for and never heard a word back didn't recieve a call or letter saying my request was accepted or denied instead received a threat of being sued for not paying for the week camp of coloring and playing games (that's what they consider treatment even in the adult unit) that I didn't ask for. This place if terrible not everyone is bad but the "treatment" and DR.Ohiku are. Thanks for putting a teenager thousands if dollars in debt :) you guys rock.

The program and schedule were very beneficial. The food was amazing and the doctors/nurses/staff really are there to make sure your time there is meaningful. But there are a few bad seeds peppered in there and it's difficult to get anywhere if you call to get information about labwork after your stay. They are very flexible with the payment plan and accommodating to special needs.

I just tried to talk to my family member who’s currently receiving treatment at this “hospital” and was denied the right to talk with her despite having the required extension. The old white lady who answered the phone on 11/25/18 at 3:30 pm needs to be fired. And if I have to drive down from DC just to have a convo with her, I’ll be sure to bring Hell.

This is a good place, I guess I could say, but what got me is that the night I left they said "do you think your good now???", and asked me if I wanted to leave, I said kinda but I might need a few more days to actually get back to normal, but the doctor said to me "we can't keep you here because your insurance won't cover more than 4 days. I needed help but when they said that to me, what went through my head is that they just mostly cared for the money

St. Simons-By-The-Sea was a great experience. I was scared at first because of all the negative reviews. I checked in and the staff was amazing. The food could be better but it was okay which is why I am giving 4 stars. They helped me detox from alcohol and gave me plenty of good resources to continue my journey to sobriety when I left the place. I would recommend this facility if your seeking help. I learned a lot and I don't have the desire to drink anymore. I couldn't do it without their help. My mind is clear and I feel better than ever.

It's been some time since I went here, but I have been to one other facility. This place has caring staff, good food, great scenery and activities. The last one I was in had no windows, one TV for 12 people, and we got to do activities 3 times a week(basketball inside or coloring books). I only saw the outside through ONE window the entire time, and I rarely got to look out of that window. Saint Simons has outdoor activities....FRESH AIR! Saint Simons may not be a 5 star resort, but I've been to a facility such as this in Savannah twice. It's night and day. Comparing the two, Saint Simons was a vacation.

I attended the RECOVERY REVOLUTION CONFERENCE along with 17 others. I especially loved the manicured grounds and very old Oak trees. We stayed 2 nights at the Turner Lodge. It was a lovely place to stay. The staff where we registered for the conference were excellent and very helpful, they really made us feel wanted. The meals were up-scale, and the servers were gracious. I hope to go again.

To all those who love the one in need of HELP. This is not the place for help. these people are rude to us the family ,and then you recevie a call from your love one and they tell you they will not give them nothing to sleep,and just to let you know cold turkey does not work and is dangerous. I have sat there and listen to other people in the waiting area, and it is not good .this place is about money ,for them,not to help our love one. IF YOUR LOVE ONE NEEDS HELP, IT IS NOT HERE. IF YOU NEED HELP PLEASE FIND IT,BUT IF YOUR LOOKING HERE YOUR NOT LOOKING FOR HELP OR YOU DO NOT LOVE THE ONE IN NEED. GOD BLESS YOU .Sorry about the star i had to or this would not post

I was completely deceived by the staff members that I spoke with on the phone on about 6 occasions before arriving at the facility. They claimed that it was a nice place where I could get some rest and recovery and that there would be free time to go outside to play tennis and walk the grounds and just overall take a break from the monotony of my daily stressful life that had brought me down into a less than pleasant state of mind. They also made it sound like a resort type place that had Dr.'s, nurses, and therapists that would be available to speak with on a regular basis. The Dr.'s and therapists typically were busy and only were there during the day which left little time to speak with them about my problems because they were pretty busy most of the time. That aside, and most importantly, I was told that if at any time I wasn't comfortable being there I could leave anytime I chose to. Well, very soon after being interviewed and accepted by the admissions department (who obviously don't know much about what happens in the "back of the house" or "hospital area") I was asked to be searched, in which I completely complied until the gentleman performing the search wanted to see me with my underwear (very tight trunks) off to check for hidden drugs or whatever else I might be trying to sneak in after I had already performed a partial reveal of my back side and front pouch portion which I felt was a complete invasion of my human rights and privacy. That's what got us off to a bad start. After I refused to get completely nude I was basically told that if I didn't strip down I wouldn't be allowed to stay at which point I agreed to do so without any resistance. Then after about an hour of them trying to convince me to do so, so that I could stay, they changed their minds and had me fill out all of the necessary paperwork work. They went through my belongings, took away a lot of my necessary items (some of which were medically needed for my hip pain (Biofreeze) I was shown to my room which was very uncomfortable and nowhere near "Hotel Like", I came back to the nurses desk and asked for my belongings so that I could leave at which point I was told that I couldn't. All of this took about 4.5 hours starting at about 10:40 pm when I arrived until about 2:45 am when I finally got to my room. By this time I had seen enough of this place to know that it wasn't for me. I was told at about 2:50 am that I couldn't leave until a Dr. cleared me for departure which ended up taking about 39 hours. One of the Dr.'s even told me just a few hours before I was allowed to leave that, if I didn't stay I would end up right back in there or another facility just like it. That is downright disrespectful and definitely not positive support. To summarize, it was much like a jail with a few nicer perks. If you are in need of a place to go detox from very heavy drinking or drug use for a week or so, and you live in the area then, this place is for you. They will give you all of the "sleep it off meds" you want. If you want REAL help with an addiction then PLEASE! FIND A BETTER PLACE. These types of "hospitals" are designed to keep you coming back.

I hated this place. It was absolutely awful. It was old, run down, not taken care of, and the staff was very unfriendly, and treated us like we were prison inmates. I was tricked into staying here basically. I went over to see if I could receive help for my anxiety attacks and the guy who checked me in lied and told me I was a "serious" case, and that I should stay just one night for observation. Then he went on to saying I could leave whenever I wanted (BIGGEST LIE EVER!) All I was expecting was an interview and booking with a psychiatrist, some medication, and to be checked out the next day. Then I was told that I couldn't leave, and was forced to stay there against my will. They don't care about the patients, only about getting as much money they can out of our insurance, because the place is old and going downhill anyway, and they are losing funds. My parents had to come over and threatened a lawsuit against them until they released me. I am better than ever now! I'm on lexapro to help with my anxiety and am happy to say I'm back to a normal happy life. I hope they tear this place down someday. Or it at least goes out of business and they turn it into hotel cottages or something more beneficial. They need a nicer facility and more caring staff anyway.

Went there today to visit my wife after a 2 1/2 hour ride .we arrived at 1 told the front desk lady my wife's name see wrote it down .visit hours were so post to be from 1.45 to 2.20 .after waiting till 1.45 they finally brought them to the visiting room at 1.50 and we didn't get to go in till 2.05 .when my son and I entered the visiting room my wife was not there so in asked the nurse where she was the nurse looked a her paper work said she wasn't told to bring her .so when they finally got around to getting my wife it was 2.15 and visiting hours ended at 2.20 so we got to spend only 10 minutes for the visit . I Was Very DISAPPOINTED And angry. For being a high rated hospital they were very unorganized they had 45 minutes to let my wife know we were there ..but we only got a 10 minute visit .. If they can't be organized for a family visit I wonder how the treatment is there. I don't recommend this hospital

The whole experience was just awesome...all of the staff there was overcome addicts, so they knew exactly how you were feeling. The doctors was wonderful. And I loved the chef!!!!! Although I dont enjoy seafood that much, this man knew he could cook. Yea the beds kinda sucked but other than that I would like to go back there for a vacation !!!! LOL great facility, I would recommend this place to anyone who needed help..They really did save my life then.

I was brought here against my will. The I'm some of the staff was nice the others where horrible. They hired uneducated staff fresh out of school who didn't understand certain treatment processes.The techs was horrible they improperly document medical diagnoses. This was supposed to be a place for people to start a healing process that was a total lie. The facility was filty they only kept the front area clean. Staff and patients are not required to wear masked. Several people left and entered the place. They lied about medication they was given me. They only wanted people to eat and snack when they wanted them to and last but not least they didn't have toilet paper and didn't want to give out underware not clothing. This place is definitely in it for the money and not for the patients at all.

My husband’s stay was nothing short of a nightmare. Stay away from this hell hole unless you plan on staying every day your insurance approves and/or you’re looking for an easy lawsuit. I highly recommend reading Buzzfeed’s exposé (“Intake: Locked in the Psych Ward), reviewing the DOJ lawsuit fining this facility $122 millions for illegally detaining patients, and secure a lawyer before stepping anywhere near this facility or any other Universal Health Servicea psychiatric facility.

This place fucked me up so bad. Im a seventeen year old girl that struggles with mental health. I came here hoping to heal, but all I got was fights yelling and more trauma. There were constant fights among the staff and patients. I also was put in charge of calming down patients during break downs. They would pull me out of groups in order to do this. Another patient was on 24 hour watch, but they would have me watch this patient instead of a nurse. They pulled me completely off my meds all at once, and because of this I went through horrible withdrawals. I spent an entire day crying because of this. I was physically threatened and emotionally attacked. I had multiple ptsd breakdowns because the situation was so bad and reminded me of my original trauma. They refused to let me call my parents when it was an emergency, and they refused to let me talk to a councilor. The staff would ignore us if we were in a crisis and even when a patient was expressing that they thought they were going to hurt me, they didn't do anything. I would never ever put someone here. Not even if they were my worst enemy. Fuck this place and fuck their staff.
