I am very surprise to read these views about Riverwoods. I was here 3 years ago & the staff was cool. I really loved Ms. G, she's not there any more. I guess my focus was on me getting better & the others there for help. We were like one big family helping each other. Matter of fact, a lot of us didn't want to leave. I still think about others that were there & wish we could all meet up again. There are times I have considered going back. Makes me wonder if the same staff is still there. I know they were making changes to lodging when I left, but I guess a lot can happen in 3 years. So sorry to hear of the bad experiences here. ?

My unitedhealth insurance was registered in washington, and im just now hearing about it now!!! Im in the php program im going through divorce. This is hard for me. Now im worried about being homeless again because they dropped the ball about informing the php program is a partial hospitalization program. Its a 28 day program to help me transition program to release me back into housing. I am highly functional and advocate for other mentally ill persons. They also do not honor the patient privacy act. The office lady though i love her to immensely is telling the supervisors the goings on of other patients. I digress though. They are overworked and i see this, in so much the therapist named linda seemed to of painted a target on my back the first day i had attended her group then she told me when i got upset "That i didnt have to come back" when i walked out. So i talked to whom seems to be the head therapist Melinda and she printed a handout of 99coping skills" and then attended Ebony's group which was must more desirable then the other group. Today is now thursday and im not going to be attending any group because now my focus is trying to stay in the php program. Try harder guys seriously... I will not be homeless again with out a fight of the injustices i have endured trying to stay off the streets. I do not have a drug problem I have PTSD and am fighting like a wolf. The other staff that have been there longer understand and are trying hard. Let us work together not against each other show me you can do better then i will put another review praising your efforts... Show me your efforts, i have already proved mine own. I've been staying at the Lodge and the staff has been nothing but nice. Robert in particular has been very kind and always there to help us when we were in need of anything. He listens to any concerns and does what he can to fix the issue. Not sure why the previous reviewer said Robert was rude because that's definitely not his character. In regards to Brian, I remember your wife leaving the program and it was a much bigger issue that had nothing to do with the staff. I think it was more so she wasn't happy with her roommates. Unfortunately when you are in a lodge type living situation you have to make the best of your circumstances. If she had the opportunity to move in with family and or you then that would've been her best option in the beginning. Wish her the best.

I have nothing to say but good things about this place. Yes, it's run like a prison but it needs to be. Two nurses were attacked when I was there visiting a loved one. So there has to be structure or the place would be chaos. From Hakeem at the front desk to the nurses in the transitional unit, everyone was so nice and kind. I'm not sure why people are leaving horrible reviews because honestly this place was exactly where my family member needed to be and got the treatment she needed.

My experience was good. They were under staff and did have lack of hygiene products. Group sessions wasn’t what I thought they would be, more of just answering questions on how you something makes you feel nothing more, nothing less. The staff cared about the patients. Some sat and talked to me and wanted to know my story and they gave advice and told me short life stories about themselves. That made me feel safe and know that I’m not alone, and that we all have problems. The food was good and the cafeteria was clean, so were the rooms. I wouldn’t go back because a psych ward is not a place for me‼️ Thank you Riverwoods staff for keeping me safe and well rounded ?

The place is clean and the security is taken very serious.The food is as good as any hospital but what sets this place apart from others is the therapist and nurses. They really care and they show it with everything they do to make you as comfortable with an uncomfortable situation. I read the other reviews but I can honestly say my experience with this location was as pleasant as it could be under the circumstances.

Anyone that reaches out to help someone, who is at a crossroads in my book is great. When your going to harm yourself or others, this is where you want to be. Just showering can be hard. Riverwoods Behavioral Health is an absolute disgrace when it comes to patient mental health care, and quite frankly, they shouldn't even be allowed to operate. My recent discharge from that wretched place after enduring 4 days and 3 nights of sheer misery has left me utterly disgusted. It's abundantly clear management is more interested in wringing every last penny out of its victims than actually providing any semblance of genuine care. The staff was overwhelmed with the number of patients and had limited resources. From the moment I stumbled into their so-called facility seeking alcohol detox treatment, I was met with an absurd demand for insurance information. As if that wasn't infuriating enough, they swiftly thrust a bill in my face, essentially demanding a payment. Never in my wildest nightmares did I expect to be extorted while intoxicated. It's an outright display of predatory behavior that preys on the vulnerable and disoriented. Days were spent either vegetating in front of a blaring TV, perched on excruciatingly uncomfortable plastic chairs, or locked in our rooms under the guise of "reflection time”. We were supposed to have 4 varied sessions among the other scheduled activities I’ve attached throughout the day to help cope with our issues, but only one was ever conducted and extremely briefly because the charge nurse had to run off to her next task. In the 4 days I was there we were let outside on only two of our scheduled fresh air breaks. I met with a “therapist” once for all of 15 minutes where I was asked a few questions while she typed notes, checking a box. For our community goals group we were handed worksheets to fill out, again checking a box. I don’t even know what the other sessions were supposed to be because we never had them. Lots of our time was spent staring at the posted schedule wondering if we were actually going to have any interactions with the staff. The staff we were meant to interact with the most were the Behavioral Health Associates. However, due to the gamification of their job we were never truly spoken to. We were tracked using armbands and were meant to be checked on every 15 minutes by getting into proximity of us and tapping our name on a tablet. This had the BHAs running around tapping on our names as rapidly as possible because they were either rewarded for the most “tags” or reprimanded if they ever let a patient go past 15 minutes. This 15 minute rule also included when we were asleep. Which meant every 15 minutes or more with 2 people per room, our door was opened and flooded with light. Both the noise and light woke me up. Think about that; if checked on a minimum of every 15 minutes, that’s at LEAST 32 times a night. I don’t believe I slept for a total of 2 hours the 3 nights I was there. As you can imagine a lack of sleep is NOT conducive to one's mental health. Speaking of mental health; there were patients around with clearly deeper phycological issues. I witnessed a nearly comatose young lady shuffled around until she eventually soiled herself. Another woman vomited and was met with yells from the RNs “We’re not going to hold your hair for you!” Many of the patients were homeless and shuffled off to shelters. I witnessed a fight between patients and clear psychotic breaks. The RNs also joked about patients thinking they couldn’t be heard. They made jokes about drinking on the job which was very triggering for the patients in for alcohol abuse. The RNs never left the nurses station and worked on paperwork 99% of the day either intaking or discharging patients. They attempted to keep you in as long as possible with no concern about the impact the facility might be having on you to be able to charge for the maximum number of days. My original discharge date was set for Saturday, an additional two days on top of when I was able to get out due to some aggressive negotiations with my family. They had to threaten legal action and report to the news to get me released into their care; both of which I’ll be pursuing personally.
