Make sure to pay attention to their reviews on all sites, including the BBB. Horrible experience. Owners are not involved unless it is about money. They have zero medical background. Staff never stays long. Constantly changing rules and making them up as they go along. I have never seen such an unorganized place! Their website is not up to date and very misleading about what they provide and this was a common complaint. & Much, much more. Look them up and see for yourself. Here's your fair warning. P.S. UPDATE: I am NOT a troll. I purposely did not use my real name. Look up James Dillion youself. Look up their attorney Jim Stanton. Like I SAID, look up all the reviews on several sites, for many years before till now. They always say people weren't patients when they get a bad review.

I cannot say enough about this program. I am forever indebted to Jim and his amazing team. They truly gave my son his life back. They know exactly what they are doing. The team is exceptional and they truly care about my son. Their approach is logical and in my opinion the only way someone with an addiction should be treated. I cannot believe how quickly they were able to help my son and how easy they make it look. I will never forget how nervous I was making that call to help my son find the help he needed to become sober. You see my son has been drinking for years and nothing seemed to help him stay sober until he went to Empower. Jim took care of everything and within a day my son was so much better and excited about his future. He has completed the IP program and will continue to work with the team at Empower for his outpatient program. If they can help him. I am confident anyone going to this program will benefit greatly from their approach to healing.

VCG Drive

Do not send a loved one here. The director/owner is unscrupulous, unethical and a pathological liar with serious anger issues. Verbal guarantees made will NOT be provided in writing, and not honored. I paid large amounts of money for a 90-day inpatient stay, guaranteeing us 6 to 8 weeks of subsequent “free” aftercare which never took place, due to the rehab's deplorable financial condition, which resulted in the elimination of the promised aftercare program. Not only was payment demanded from us two weeks prior to due date each month, but when pressured to hand over the check to the owner, he made his priority discussing his other possible business ventures in the hopes of tapping my professional contacts. I later found out that we were charged much more than others. At the time of attendance, four out of five patients in treatment relapsed within a week of leaving, probably due to the lack of follow-up support and a structured program. During the 90 days the majority of the staff was eliminated as were the advertised amenities. Many of the staff members were compassionate, loyal and supportive. However, the turnover rate was high, all but 2 quit during the 3-month stay. At the time of dismissal, therapeutic staff was reduced to one individual. We now need to spend more money and find another program which will provide transition from a limiting, in-patient environment to the real world. We could continue to provide multiple examples of the ways in which this “ashram” took advantage of us during our most vulnerable time. However, we don’t wish to dwell on the past- but look forward to a hopeful future of recovery far away from Empower. Added after owner's response: HAHAHAHAHA! I repeat: Pathological LIAR with serious anger issues further evident in his response. None of the factual complaints are addressed by owner; not even the relapse of 4 out of 5 patients! He prefers to engage in tirade of nasty falsehood. YIKES! Even if this were true, can you imagine spewing forth such confidential information? What if the review had been posted under actual names? Hard to move someone to another rehab when payment is demanded 2 weeks ahead of time and the patient is in the middle of recovery and under long-standing, prescribed medication not allowable in other rehabs, which is the reason patient ended up here to begin with. Some of the patients who relapsed were there for the same amount of time, without other options and victims of the non-existent aftercare. Patient left a few days earlier than scheduled after owners offered to have the patient stay at a B&B in St. Petersburg, which they offered to pay for, because of their financial difficulties, and the expense of keeping the place open over the weekend. The two remaining patients endured this arrangement. Further response is not worth the time and effort.

I've been to a handful of treatment centers in my life, but Empower was by far the best. It felt like I was on a well needed vacation, in a beautiful spot with my own private room and access to my phone and laptop. We went out several times each week to go shopping, to the beach, to the movies, mini golf and out to dinner. But it was a working vacation, where I learned amazing techniques to calm my mind and body, and have helped me get sober. The Yoga and Meditation that I learned there are very effective, and the classes on Mind, Body, Spirit and Environment were very informative. I would recommend this program to anyone in need of treatment. Today is day 100 (yay me!) after spending 60 days in the program. I don't feel like drinking or drugging today, and am starting to put my life back in order. Thanks Jim, and everybody at Empower - clients and staff - who helped me get back on track and back into enjoying a productive life.

I had a patient go here against my advice, was drawn in by the advertising and internet info. Simply making a decision to change behavior and stop using drugs or alcohol is free and the most effective form of treatment available. This place is gonna get your cash up front. If you decide to change your behavior you may get better. This place has no track record of success published anywhere. They would not provide one or any other info regarding success failure rates over time when I called. I have no vested interest in any treatment center, however I will discourage anyone from going to one that will not provide any written info on success failure rates. One call to PEMHS and you can get their success failure rates. Yes they thrive on return customers and on paper don't seem to help many people, but they are completely up front about it. Imagine getting estimates on a roof replacement and the company refusing to tell you how long it will last? Before signing over your benefits or cash to these people, ask for success failure rates in writing. Ask for any track record info in writing. They have no nurse on staff. They also have no doctor on staff. Don't know how they get by with this. All but one of the reviews have been done by staff members.

The owner has major anger issues. He ended up kicking my fiancée out because we weren't happy with the fact that there were no therapists, no help. Cameras don't work, owners spoke to me like I was a child, screaming at me calling my fiancée an "addict who will never change". DONT bring your loved ones here!!!!

This place, and the people who work here, *completely* changed my life. I spent nearly 4 months here residential (9/8/16-12/25/16), and left suddenly because they do not treat severe eating disorders, and my anorexia had reached a point of becoming a liability. I was warmly given a letter upon my difficult departure that if I completed a residential treatment program for my ED, along with a few other stipulations, that I could be reassessed to come back for PHP/IOP. I completed all of the objectives, and Empower graciously accepted me back. I spent another 3 months in their IOP program. Fun fact: I also facilitated the Expressive Art Therapy Group. Art is my passion, and they let me run with it, encouraging new ways for it to, well, Empower me. I went to Fairwinds for my ED treatment for over two months in early 2017, and shortly after my mom suddenly passed away in 2013, I was baker-acted into The Willough in Naples for a routine 28 days. Empower blows those programs away by far, and any other I've researched. The staff became like family to me. If it weren't so special, I wouldn't have necessarily had the will to fight so hard to keep persevering on my healing journey to find my way back in. And they kept their word with reassessing me. They've been so gracious to me-- here I felt like a unique human being, not just another number. My primary therapist was honestly one of the best in south Florida (probably a wider geographic area than that, but south Florida is where my experience has occurred), as I have worked with so many therapists since 2013 (I really lost count)- from Naples to New Tampa- and she is more talented and skilled than all of them combined (Dr. Anne Cattarello). My case isn't and wasn't the easiest, with my combination of diagnoses. But, she is absolutely more than qualified to treat each one of them (short of the ED) and the complicated combination. I also got the honor of getting to know another amazing therapist (Dr. Deb Weir), and it just wouldn't be a thorough review unless I included how much she changed my life too. She has since relocated to Asheville, and has a few different projects coming up, one suited for current therapists searching for a training in a unique modality to better help their clients. It is sure to be one-of-a-kind, just like she is. Empower is for people who aren't looking for the traditional, run-of-the-mill rehabilitation experience. They have a very well-rounded program-- for substance abuse recovery, mental health issues, and dual-diagnosis. I was literally their longest voluntarily admitted client, so I know what I'm saying when I tell you: this place is very, very special. It's worth the journey, time, means, and energy to find your way here and work in their program. If you do go: tell Anne, Frank, Linda, Theresa, Jim, Julia, Rob, Liat, Dr. Singh, Rebecca, and Chris (the caterer) I said "hi" and "Autumn misses you already". Also, if you find yourself there, that art work that is... everywhere... that was my *tiny* way of giving back to a place that gave me so, so much.
