High Watch Recovery Center is a fantastic facility all-around! I cannot say enough about the quality of the campus, the staff, and the program overall. I spent 90+ days there and have never felt better. From admissions to the therapists to the general staff - there is so much support and love. More importantly - I developed a very solid network with other guests during my stay - friendships that are still going strong. High Watch also ensures that a connection to the program is maintained through Saturday nigh AA-meetings (open to the public), an alumni Facebook page, and a weekly Transitions programs aimed at helping recently discharged guests with their transition back to general life. There is a ton of love at High Watch - and I can honestly say it was a life-changing experience. Admissions worked diligently and patiently with me - and, for this, I have the utmost respect for the facility. The most important part of the program is that it is 12-step based and their is a great emphasis for guests to work with a step-coach in the journey toward recovery. There are numerous electives and meetings to attend as well. You are kept busy - and this structure has the right balance of program and "free-time" (generally used to connect with other guests). I had the privilege of participating in the Extended Guest program which granted me responsibilities and helped me rebuild my confidence and work on my personal recovery. Other rehab facilities cannot compare. If you are serious about recovery - High Watch Recovery Center is the place for you. If you put in the work and effort - there is plenty of support and love to guide you.

I have multiple reasons why this facility deserves one star. First, Jerry (current President & CEO) is a toxic man and is not even half the executive that the outgoing President & CEO (Matt) was. Second, they do not respect HIPAA laws -- I say this because I was informed by multiple previous patients that staff members were sharing my confidential clinical diagnoses with other patients at will without my permission. Third, and the scariest experience by far, was that if they don't like you, they will forget their mission to provide "lifesaving" support and instead do whatever it takes to expel you from campus. Because I didn't get along with Jerry, he decided to literally throw me and my belonging that were stuffed in a large garbage bag on the streets of Danbury in the middle of the night by faking two positive drug tests. He did this by subjecting me to a random drug test (WHICH I PASSED) and then placing me in an isolated room where he said he "retested" my first drug test urine two more times and told me they came out "positive." When asked if I could see the "positive" drug tests he denied my request and then dropped me and my garbage bag full of belongings in Danbury in the middle of the night. Worst experience of my life. If you do find yourself at this facility do everything you can to stay away from Jerry. I truly believe he is mentally unstable or is at least making up for some personal deficiency by inappropriately using his position as President & CEO. There is no other explanation for his actions. Last but not least, the facility and program structure needs to modernize. High watch does not actively treat co-occurring disorders and must realize that one program (12-steps focused) does not fit all. Please read any and all current scientific case studies on addiction treatment. The information is out there but these facilities are slow to change and update their programs.

My friends hear me say this all the time about High Watch: it saved my life, and as importantly it gave me new life. I was a pretty broken guy when I arrived there. I was lucky enough to spend 100 days or so there, and came out healthier than I had been in 20 years, spiritually enlightened, and hopeful/positive once again. My faith in myself and others was restored. I cannot say enough positive things about the staff, from administration to therapists to coaches to nursing to milieu to the kitchen. If you are someone in need or know someone in need, this is the place - bar none, in my opinion.

I have worked in other addiction treatment settings and can say without hesitation that High Watch Recovery Center is the most compassionate and caring environment in which I’ve worked. The guests are viewed and treated with the respect, dignity, and compassion they deserve. Many of the staff members are in recovery themselves and understand the challenges and fears associated with facing addiction head on. High Watch is closely associated with the AA founders and has a rich history. Here the 12 Steps and AA principles are seamlessly incorporated into the treatment program. Guests receive therapists, 12 Step Coaches, a psychiatric professional to monitor medications, a team of medical professionals to meet guests’ physical needs, and a staff dedicated to their well-being. Guests may also participated in yoga or equine therapy, and a ropes course was added over the winter. Other enrichment projects are also in development, and it is an exciting time to be a part of the High Watch community. I’m proud to work for such an amazing company.

I spent six weeks at High Watch In June-July 2017. Initially, the program was helpful. However, they seem more concerned about taking your money than they do about your recovery. I originally signed on for two months, but left after six weeks because of the way the place was evolving. They started packing in patients, individual therapy was diminished, the entire quality deteriorated. The final injustice was after I left. John, an admissions agent (basically a salesman) reported me to the state police in my hometown more than one hundred miles away, and I am now facing incarceration. Thanks John and High Watch for destroying my life.

I am looking into pursuing HIPAA VIOLATIONS and medical mismanagement along with having the state review their practice. Of note I have experience in addiction medicine and I, personally, recommend against choosing this facility. Mountainside is the preferred institution.
