Can you die from heroin detox?

Sometimes when I run out of Heroin or I can't score in time to get well before I get really sick and start to detox I have the most intense sensation of pain and discomfort to the point where I literally feel like it might end my life. Is it possible that during detox I might actually die? or is that just my addict mentality trying to get me to use again?

My best friends sisters boyfriends brother actually died during his heroin detox so it could happen. Never say never.
