Can you die from a heroin withdrawal?

I am going to quit using heroin today. I know that I will be sick and that It is going to suck but can you die from a heroin withdrawal? I have been using steady without any days off for the past 4 years straight so I don't know if that makes a difference at all but I figured I would let you all know just incase it matters.

My friend died from a complication during his withdrawal from heroin on the second day that he was detoxing but I don't think it was directly tied to the withdrawal. I bet it's possible and that it has happened to somebody somewhere at some time but for your purposes I am fairly certain that you will survive. Go get em Tiger!! Meow
