  5. Can alcohol withdrawal cause seizures?

Do alcoholics have a higher threshold for seziures. I'm wondering if alcohol intoxication raises or lowers a persons seziure threshold, ultimately decreasing seziures. I ask this because alcohol seems just like other sedatives such as valium and drugs like valium help with seziures. However I did just read that being intoxicated by alcohol can cause someone to have convulsions as well as seziures.

Alcohol withdrawal can definitely cause someone to have seziures. Alcohol alone can also cause sezuires. Consuming alcohol in addition to withdrawing from it can in fact lower someones seziure threshhold. The way that alcohol impacts the seizure threshhold during drunkenness is greatly complex and is a result of alcohols effect on the brains GABA receptors.

I've never been witness to alcohol intoxication triggering symptoms like seizures and have not come across any cases regarding this either. But hey, anything is possible.
