Why is xanax abused?

My best friend just told me that she has become dependent on Xanax. I’ve heard of this happening with some workmates and when I’m out, I hear it mentioned a lot. What is about Xanax that people end up abusing it?

Xanax is quite easy to get hold of, you tell the doctor that you’re suffering from anxiety and boom, he’ll give you a prescription for it. Most people use it to take the edge off or as a sleeping pill but your tolerance builds quickly, so you end up taking more – and then you end up with a drug dependency!
