  5. Why do people abuse valium?
Asked: 2017-12-05 13:43:01
I’ve always struggled with serious anxiety—even when I was a young kid. My doctor put me on valium to fight some of the symptoms, but I’m afraid that it’s going to lead to dependence. Why do some people abuse and get really addicted to drugs like valium?

I know that benzo addiction can be nasty. People who try and stop using can end up having seizures and other issues. Most of the time, people get addicted to the feeling of calm and the way that the drug interacts with different chemicals in the brain.

Sometimes it’s because of the effects. They think they need the drugs to go into public or to function at all. That’s a mental dependence. It can go further and turn into a physical dependence when a person takes it for a long time.
