Why do drug addicts relapse?

My mom was doing so well. She had been of drugs for 6 years, we were all so proud of her. Why did she relapse?

For an addict, drugs will always be in the back of their mind. Relapse happens sometimes like a domino effect. First putting yourself in that high risk situation, and then they tell themselves they can handle the situation when they really can’t. Just being around drugs for those who have been sober for years can cause them to relapse.
