I'm prescribed it for pain but it's not helping anymore and I feel extremely uncomfortable if I stop so I'm afraid to tell my doctor. Help!

Hi Janet, I would talk to your doctor. If you have been on Vicodin for a while, it is likely that you have developed a physical dependence. Just because you are physically dependent does not mean that you are addicted, but you have to be honest with yourself. Why are you taking them? Are you taking them because you like the feeling that they give or are you using them legitimately for pain? It sounds to me like you have been on the same dose for a while and you are now experiencing a higher tolerance, therefore they are not working. As long as you are taking them as prescribed, you shouldn't worry about talking to your doctor. Of course, if you stop taking them, you will feel bad because you have been taking them for a long time. You don't necessarily need a higher dose, what you could choose is an alternative treatment such as physical therapy or chiropractic. If you are comfortable with getting a higher dose, then you can talk to your doctor about it but please be aware that your physical dependence will continue to grow.
