Why are people addicted to alcohol?

My parents go out all the time now and drink. They don’t even have dinner with me anymore. Why are they addicted to alcohol so much?

Alcohol signals the brain to make your body slow down, it relaxes the muscles and makes you feel good. And when you drink too much your body now expects to feel that way all the time, making you crave to drink more often.
