  5. Why alcohol is addictive?
Asked: 2017-11-10 06:51:15
My boyfriend doesn’t think alcohol is addictive or that he is at risk of developing a problem if he keeps drinking like he does. I’m trying to explain to him why he is at danger of becoming dependent on alcohol. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Alcohol is addictive because of the way it makes us feel. Our brains experience chemical reactions when we consume alcohol, and if we aren’t careful, our brains can start to crave these feelings, and we’ll keep picking up the bottles. Your boyfriend should be smarter about his alcohol consumption for sure.

You should remain firm on your stance that yes, alcohol is addictive, and yes, he could be at risk because these are both true statements. Although the ethanol alcohol in adult beverages is not addictive, the chemical reactions it causes inside our brains are. If your boyfriend drinks heavily and or often, he could most definitely be at risk of becoming dependent on alcohol.
