My 5-year-old son heard the word “addiction” on the news and keeps asking me what it means. What is the best thing for me to tell him?

Ahh, the curiosity of young ones! I would tell him that addiction is a disease that makes people sick and makes them do things they wouldn’t normally do. I would also add that people can get addicted to things like drugs or alcohol, and they can feel sick when they don’t take them. I would remind him that he’s young and shouldn’t worry about this for a while, but that you will always be there for him to talk to and ask questions.
