I overheard my sister telling her friend that her boyfriend is a meth addict. He seems like a straight up guy the couple of times we met, what is she talking about?

Meth refers to methamphetamine – a powder or crystal drug that is easily got and hugely detrimental to someone’s health. Meth addiction happens because the user needs more and more of it even just to feel normal and it leads to all sorts of problems from physical to legal and mental.

Her boyfriend uses either crystal meth or a powder that he snorts or injects to get the same effect, which is to get high. If she’s saying he’s an addict he’s probably prone to risky behavior and could be getting in trouble with the law, he’ll have a regular need to get high, probably isn’t eating very much and he might be aggressive. He likely needs help. It doesn't mean he isn’t a good guy, he’s just in a bad place.
