What is enabling an alcoholic?

Why is it that my Mom keeps telling me i’m enabling an alcoholic. I mean really is it all that bad that i’m helping my Dad? What does enabling an alcoholic really mean anyway?

Thats a tough spot to be in. If your Dad is an alcoholic, and you buying him alcohol or encouraging him to drink, you are certainly enabling him with his alcoholism.
