I’ve just started a college course and addiction is a subject we have to cover, so I thought I’d ask around on the different things that make someone an addict?

psychiatry.org has addiction quotes like this one; Addiction is as a com-plex condition, a brain disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use despite harmful consequence. People with addiction have an intense focus on using a certain substance such as alcohol or drugs to the point it takes over their life. They keep using alcohol or a drug even when they know it will cause problems. But there are a number of effective treatments available and people can recover and lead a normal life.

Having been an addict now for a number of years, I’d say an addict is someone who is hooked on something that can destroy their life, but they keep going anyway.
