What drugs are addictive?

I’m trying to understand my boyfriends drug use. He insists that the drugs he’s taken recreationally over the years aren’t addictive but which are and which aren’t?

Whilst some drugs don’t create a physical addiction, like ecstasy, if people use them often they need more and more to get high, and this can cause other problems. Things like Tylenol are virtually non-addictive, hence their widespread use and why we aren’t all given opiates to take away pain.
