I’ve heard people talking at school about people being addicted to various stuff, like drugs. But what does the term addiction mean?

Addiction means wanting and needing something to the extent that it can ruin your life. It will certainly cause you problems. Some people at school might be throwing the term around loosely, but it’s pretty serious.
