My doctor said I am at danger of cross addiction but I’m confused by what that actually is. Has anyone experienced this?

My doctor told me the same thing. Cross addiction happens when a person, who is already severely addicted to one substance, becomes dependent on another substance, too. For example, I was a raging alcoholic, and eventually my disease became so bad that I didn’t care about my health or wellbeing and I got hooked on heroin, too. Luckily I went to extensive rehab and finally made it to a sober, healthy lifestyle.

I have experienced cross addiction firsthand, and I’m here to tell you it is nothing to joke about. This happens when a person, already struggling with a serious addiction, finds themselves dependent on another drug or alcohol at the same time. For me, it was heroin and methamphetamine. Please take your doctors advice seriously and realize that if you don’t get help now, it may be too late. Thankfully, I got help, and it truly saved my life.
