  5. What are the types of drug abuse?
Asked: 2017-11-24 15:53:14
My dad drinks. Like, a lot. But, sometimes he also takes a lot of painkillers and snorts brown powder that I’m pretty sure is heroin. I know it’s bad, but I just turned 18 and I have no idea what to do—it’s been this way my whole life. He told me that he wants to stop, but that he’s not an addict, just a “drug abuser.” I don’t get it. Is there a difference? Are there different types of drug abuse?

Can you get out of that house safely? If your dad has that much of an issue, you might be safer living with family members or somewhere else. Just make sure that you don’t start using drugs either, because there’s a good chance it’ll be hereditary. Drug abuse is taking any type of medication in a way that you’re not supposed to or using drugs that are illegal. It’s usually connected to addiction, and your dad definitely needs help.

Wow, that’s a tough question. It sounds like you’ve gotten used to something that no kid should have to deal with. If your dad’s been using drugs for your entire life, then there’s a very good chance that he’s an addict. This means that his drug use is out of his control and that he definitely needs professional help. Yes, there are different ways to abuse drugs. Drinking alcohol, injecting yourself, taking pills that aren’t prescribed to you, and snorting things are all good examples of the different types of drug abuse. Most of these go hand-in-hand with different types of drugs. You just need to understand that it’s not up to you to get him help, and it something you need to do for himself.
