I tore my ACL and had to have surgery to repair it. After the surgery, the doctor gave me a prescription for opiates to take for the pain. While the pills worked great to ease the pain, I feel like my body has gotten so used to the pills that I’m afraid I’m addicted to them. How can I know if I am addicted or not?

If you are addicted to the opiates, your body will crave them. You will feel nauseous and have a bad headache when you don’t take them for an extended period of time and may even notice a difference in your mood.

Being able to identify that your body has become used to the pills is a great sign. That means that you aren’t in denial about the situation and may not be as addicted to them as you think you are. Many addicts won’t admit they have a problem and will try to hide it from other people so that no one tries to stop them from using the drugs.
