All of my friends tease me because I am the only guy in the dorm at school who does not drink. I want to try it. What should I expect?

Short term effects are feeling intoxicated, impaired judgment and possibly a hang-over the next morning. Long-term, especially if you become dependent on it, include impaired liver function and a risk for pancreatitis. For women, there is an added risk of giving birth to a child with fetal alcohol syndrome.

Drinking to the point of getting drunk, often leads to reduced inhibitions. This could mean practicing unsafe sex, driving while drunk, or getting into arguments with people you care about. If you want to know how drinking might affect you, just attend a few parties and observe your friends. That could be you.
