Are heroin withdrawals physical or mental? My mom said I should just be able to quit because it is all in my mind.

It is both and that is what makes it important for you to seek help to quit. While it is not typically dangerous, it physically feels horrible for the first week or two. Once past that stage you will need to figure out to fight the psychological aspects of recovery. Meetings and sponsor or a residential rehab are tried and true methods for stopping. Good luck!

If it were easy to do, everyone would just quit. Unfortunately, heroin is extremely addicting as you know. It is not all in your mind, but your mom may be scared and wishing it were. The physical part of withdrawal from heroin is very hard and often painful, but it does not last long. The psychological part is longer, and really takes some work on your part to stick with it. People do detox successfully and go on to stay clean and sober. You can do this. Find a support system, meetings, a rehab or an addiction specialist to help you stay on track.
