My wife has given me an ultimatum. I have to stop using heroin or she will leave me. I have only been using it for a few months. Will the withdrawal be hard? What symptoms should I expect?

Only using a few months means nothing if it has gotten to the point your wife threatened to leave. You are making a good decision by quitting. Imagine having the flu, and restless leg syndrome, and anxiety all at once and you know what withdrawal from heroin feels like for some people. For others, it is not as bad but even in the worst case scenario it won't last forever. Other drugs take longer to detox from. Once the physical part is over, the real work begins because the psychological withdrawal can last for many months, But it is progressive and you will feel better with each passing week.

Some people have a harder time withdrawing from heroin than others, but nobody has an easy time . It is a very physically addicting drug and the psychological dependence can be just as rough. Physically, you might vomit, shake, sweat, and everything that can possibly hurt will hurt. Just remember it won't last long. The physical symptoms are usually over with in a matter of a few days to a week. Then the emotional and psychological withdrawal begins and that is where rehab and meetings can help you stay in recovery.
