  5. What are cocaine withdrawal symptoms?
Asked: 2018-03-09 17:12:13
My sister has been using cocaine for more than 10 years and wants to stop. She will be staying with me for a week while she gives it up. What symptoms should I look for and how can I make it easier for her?

You are a good sibling! Okay, withdrawing from cocaine is not as hard physically as withdrawing from opiates or alcohol, but psychologically, it can be very difficult. Not being able to be happy, extreme fatigue, feeling restless, not being hungry are all signs- but one of the toughest will be a more intense desire to use cocaine. Symptoms will last from a week to 10 weeks depending on many things. Get her to some NA meetings as soon as she is feeling well enough to go. Also, you can make sure she stays hydrated and active when she can.

While it is not as hard physically to withdraw from cocaine as other drugs, there can be physical symptoms. Your sister might have aches and pains and an overall feeling of being unwell. When you toss in anxiety, depression, the need for lots of sleep, and loss of appetite, she will be feeling pretty rough at first. But if she can get through it she will be on her way to sobriety! Just being there for her, without crowding her will be a big help.
