How can you get addicted to alcohol?

Do people get addicted to alcohol after drinking a few times with some friends? If so how is this even possible. I thought that someone would need to drink a lot all the time to get addicted to anything including alcohol.

Most importantly, if addicton runs in the family either from drugs or alcohol, precautions should be taken but if predisposed to addiciton a person can 100% get addicted to alcohol after drinking it only once.
