Can Xanax be addictive?

A friend of mine has been using Xanax almost daily for the past week or so and, I am worried that he may be addicted. Is Xanax even something that can cause addiction? I know it is prescribed to him for anxiety so I was not sure if this was even something to worry about. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

I have had some experience in the Xanax department and can say first hand that addiction is a very strong probability especially with daily usage.
