MMORAL AND INCOMPETANT! I contacted Tenderloin Outpatient Clinic after my previous psychiatric practitioner resigned. My issue was ADHD, for which I had been treated with talk therapy and medication (Adderall) for six-years. After searching for almost a year I learned that psychiatric services are extremely difficult to find as most are not taking new patients and/or do not prescribe controlled substances. I asked Tenderloin Clinic: "Are you accepting new patients, AND "do you diagnose and treat ADHD patients with medication if necessary" ? The answer to both questions was "YES" and "YES." However, after five-months being lied to, humiliated and taken advantage of, I learned that NEITHER was true. First I had to wait a few weeks to be given an "assessment" which was a necessary first step. I was asked several intimate questions and also the medication and doses each that I was currently taking. Fine. The next step was two talk therapy sessions before my appointment with one of their psychiatric providers. At the end of a third session I asked the therapist when I would be seeing the psychiatric practitioner. To my surprise she informed that I was on the "waiting list" and would not be seen for at least three months. WAITING LIST? No one at any point had informed me that there was a waiting list. Classic "bait and switch." Be that as it may, I was already invested in their process and decided I could wait longer. Two months later I was contacted by N.P. EMILIA E. Anyah, finally I would be seen. She called me twice and asked me the exact same questions that I had already answered in the initial intake. Prescription history etc. Then another phone assessment that lasted almost two hours in which I answered each of her questions no matter how painful or traumatic. I trusted her. She then informed me she had all of the necessary information and would contact me to discuss treatment. A week later she called and informed me that "she does not diagnose patients over the phone for ADHD." And does not conduct video visits or see patients in person due to the pandemic. You can imagine my dismay and confusion. I asked her why she nor the clinic did not tell me this upfront. She said "oh, I thought you knew that" then added "I would feel the same way if I were you." I was stunned, livid. After FIVE-MONTHS of waiting, assessments, therapy and the promise of help, I realized that N.P. Emilia Anyah and Tenderloin Clinic NEVER had any intention of diagnosing or treating me for ADHD. Later I would learn that they charged Medical a fortune for all the services related to me that had nothing to do with my ADHD. I was nothing but a pawn used to justify their salaries. When I called to complain to Clinical Director Lauren Calderon she offered no explanation other than to say did not know who answered the phone that day when I first called. She did however offer that something similar had happened to her with a medical professional. How comforting, thanks. Completely unprofessional. I also spoke with Medical Director Dr. Yates Brown who was sincere and apologetic saying there was "no excuse" for my experience with Tenderloin Clinic. He admitted to gross incompetence on the part of the clinic. As for N.P. Emilia E. Anyah, and my assertion that she misled and lied to me in order to charge Medical, he said he would take my complaint seriously and would investigate the matter with her. I am taking his word. I am in the process of filing a grievance against the clinic and have also contacted the California Medical board to file another grievance against N.P. Emilia E. Anyah. They took advantage of me at the saddest most vulnerable time in my life. They are a business, but not in the business of helping people.
